WHAT!!

I thought it was totally weird that in the modern version of Romeo and Juliet the balcony scene wasn't even the balcony scene!! They were in a swimming pool! Even though it wasn't acted very well and the lines were pretty much the same...it kind of took Shakespeare's originality out! Then again that whole movie does. At least the older version of the play keeps it original and has the balcony scene! What do you think?

THIS WEEKEND & TODAY.

This weekend was Prom. It was really fun and really cool to dress up. I will try and upload some pictures or something. Today in class we are watching and reading about the balcony scene, which is act two scene one and scene two. Romeo and Juliet is really interesting I think. I love, love, love the new version that we are also watching in class, along with the older original movie. No fear shakespeer is a big help too for reading along and understanding the way the script is written.

ONLY 27 DAYS OF SCHOOL LEFT.
Man, this year has gone by so fast!
I think so anyway...
what do you guys think?

and how has everyone's freshman year gone?

A hole in ONE??

Today I went mini golfing with my youth group...it was so much fun!! Of course I lost! I got one hole in one but it was only by a miracle! I was the first person to go and so when I went my ball got in every one's way!! So my friend Destony hit her ball, which just happened to hit my ball! And my ball was like ten feet away from the hole to make a hole in ONE!! I couldn't believe it I laughed for like five minutes straight...it was pretty funny! The rest of the time I got like sixes and above but everyone else was having mercy on me because I was doing really bad and I usually got more than six putts!! O well I felt a lot better when we went to Andy's to eat ice cream after we got done Mini Golfing at Fun Acre! What did you do Sunday night?

Romeo and Juliet

I am a little confused on what is going on in class and what we are supposed to be reading. I know that we finished Act I and we started Act II, but I dont know if we are supposed to be reading on our own time? I dont remember Ms. James assigning reading but I'm not sure. So could someone help me out?

KC Soccer League

Well today i went to KC for soccer games, and they didn't go so great. The first game we started off good, and then the ref wasn't watching her clock and the other team scored 30 seconds before the ref ended the game. And so we tied 1-1 on the first game. The second game i dont even know what happened. It was terrible. We lost 4-0 and unfortunately it was the same ref from the previous game. And i am just now getting home which is why im blogging.

The Fatal Crash

I know how I always seem to write about someone dieing, but believe me I'm not screwed up I'm just reporting current news. So with that out of the way, last night relief pitcher Josh Hancock of the St. Louis Cardinals was killed in a car crash after their game. Hancock was driving late at night when his car hit a parked tow truck trying to load a stalled car in the middle of the highway, it is believed that Hancock was killed instantly. This is a far to familar incident for the Cardinals with this being the second loss of a player in the last 5 years.

The Little Lad Dance (A Follow up To Berries & Creame!)

Picture Poem

I don't know if anyone agrees with me, but I don't really like poetry, I think it's kind of boring. When I found out that we were going to have to write a poem I wasn't very excited, but once we started it I kind of liked it. I liked getting to use a picture and coming up with the poem from your thoughts from the picture, it made the poem so much better and more interesting.

Sleep and Peace

Act II is romantic so far...Romeo really sounds like he is madly in love, because he finally quit all that jibber jabbering, and he got down to business. I don't really believe in Love @ 1st sight, but these series of events make me realize that anything is possible, from pregnant, married 12 year olds in the 16Th century, to madly in love after 5 seconds of meeting. Shakespeare really has a way with words and he really gets his readers into the play, and you feel like you're there, watching it in the open dome playhouse. It's getting interesting...I can not wait to see what happens next when the messenger comes...
Until then! :D

The Way To Boston

The Boston Marathon is oldest marathon that is still being run today and back in Dick Beardsley running days. It was also one of the most prestige races with the best marathoners in the world coming there for one purpose and that is to win. It is always a great feeling when you win any marathon but win you win the Boston some say it is better than winning the Olympics. Dick Beardsley wanted to win this race and by now he was a world class runner and one of the best in the world. His best race was a 2:09 which is one of the best times ever run. This time was run at Grandma's Marathon in Duluth which also set a course record. He was training hard but was coming off some injuries which put him back to only 100 mile weeks instead of the 120 to 140 mile weeks he was used to. Now that might sound like a lot of money but when that is your job you have to do it. This years Boston was in 1982 with a pretty tough field especially with Alberto Salazar. Dick was running a very good race after he and Salazar had left the field in the dust since the weather was so hot for a marathon. They were at pace to break 2:10:00 with a 1:04 half way point. With about a half of a mile to go they were still neck and neck but Dick was about to take off when he got a big Charlie Horse in his right calf. He thought that it was over when Salazar blew past him but he stepped in a pothole which actually took the charlie horse right out of his leg and he was able to run again so he took off trying to catch Salazar but with about 150 yards to go a motor cycle cut him off and he lost to Salazar by about 2 or 3 yards. Here is a link to a sight with a bunch of good running pictures of Dick and one of him at the 1982 Boston Marathon on the stand.

Staying the Course

Staying the Course: A Runner's Toughest Race is a great book. It is about Dick Beardsley who in High School was never a runner until his junior year and didn't make the varsity team until the last few races. He didn't run his junior track season because it was during fishing season. With his senior year left in cross country he was the number one runner on his team but he never broke sixteen (which is kind of the mark showing that you are a good cross country runner). He was good enough his senior year in track and in cross to get a scholarship to a junior college in the area. He had two years of eligibility there but but some how he got three in track and two in cross country. Dick was turning into a very good distance runner so his coach told him he should try to start running marathons. He did his first marathon in 2:33:06 which is very good for his first one but it is no where near world class. Dick was going to go for the 1980 US Olympic team because he made a qualifying time of 2:20:22 seconds. That only got him 44th place in that race but he still was able to go to the Olympic trials. But at the Trials he didn't make the Olympic team but he had a great experience and learned a lot but he was running out of money so he went to a sporting goods show where he passed out his resumes to big name companies like Nike, addias, and New Balance. New Balance signed him and he got a new pair of running shoes that moment. Dick became a very big name when he started getting under 2:20:00 consitantly. Here is a link with the book I am readin in it.

Poetry

Does anybody else normally not like poetry? I don't enjoy poetry usually but I actually enjoyed the poems we wrote on Thursday and Friday. I wrote mine about golf and it really kind of made it fun. When you can make poetry about things you like it becomes interesting and intriguing. I hate poetry normally because most poems are boring and uneventful but when you read a poem that is full of action it really comes alive almost. I hope everybody enjoyed writing their poem and I can't wait to hear some of them!

The show....

Well as I had mentioned earlier I had to perform in our Raising America show yesterday! Over all it went pretty well but our sound man was gone so...we had a new and so the sound was kind of messed up because you could hear our voices really well but not the music! So...that was kind of a bummer! Everybody did really well on our dances and I don't think there was any mess ups besides a few here and there. My dance partner and I had to do this really hard dance lift...well not that hard but we had never like nailed it and this was our first time doing it and we did amazing!! And most importantly he didn't drop me!!! So I had a good time last night and our audience told us they really enjoyed the show so that is a plus!!

An Old Duck

An Old Duck

On an eerie night a full moon shines bright
Fishers and fish all in rested in bed
Only a long duck paddles through the dark murky waters
He swims and swims until he sees the dock
Tons and tons of beautiful boats resting on the shore
One curious duck hopes onto a boat
What a dazzling sight
The lakes look a lot different now
The old duck never had this perspective
The lake was glistening
But now the moon had risen
And the duck’s time has come
He falls back through the shadows
The shadows of time and space
Old ducks die, baby ducks live

Conferencing!

Today in class we conferenced about our original poem! My "Responder" helped me a lot! She helped me because she gave me suggestions...like using more colorful words and to really take time to search for the perfect words!! She also helped me write more by the questions she asked and it also helped me be more descriptive!! The conferencing really helps me!! What does it do for you?

Out of the Darkness

Darkness consumed the last beam of light like a hungry beast.
We crawled on our hands and knees, wincing at the scratches illuminated by our flash lights as the jagged rocks dug into our skin.
Relief fills my soul like water filling a glass.
Sliding onto a small tunnel
The thick, paste, of mud oozed between our fingers as strong soldiers army crawled through the narrow passage.
Claustrophobia takes over my mind like an evil drug.
I push fear aside and keep going.
The cool mess tangles my hair and covers my face.
The cave's mouth opens wide and spits us out.
Our eyes squint and adjust to the sun.
We burst out in laughter, hysterically rolling on the ground.
Each one of us is caked in mud from head to toe.
Our ponytails stick out wildly in all different directions.
Click, a memory of coming out of the darkness will never be forgotten.

My poem

Here's my poem, tell me if you like it:

Make Them Matter

We're only here for a moment
Like a wive crashing down on the shore
So make friends when your 3 and keep them
Just sit back and enjoy the view
Wiggle your toes in the sand
And don't worry about all the things on your to-do list
Chat with a girlfriend about nothing
And Laugh until your belly aches
Remember the compliments you get
And the times you were truly happy
But forget the rest
Because the rest dosen't matter
It's the good moments that count

It's rough but thats the first copy

Poetic Writing

I am really enjoying this poem writing. I am very surprised because I did not really like it....at all. I only liked it if it made sense, rhymed, and it was about something that I cared about. This was a really eye opener for me because it is not as easy as it looks. I also had a fun time trying to figure out what I wanted to say, how I wanted, and other things. I am writing about nature and my picture is pretty cool :D.

My picture is from a trip I took with my church and it was pretty awesome....the picture anyway. This is not the picture but yeah this was pretty and I like it. It is peaceful and beautiful. It captures the beauty of nature in all its glory. I love it :]
I can't wait to hear everyone's poems in class. That is if we get to hear everyones poems in class which I hope we do.

ipod cheating

I was just browsing yahoo news. I came upon this article about ipods and how people are cheating on tests with their ipods. Students used baseball caps to write answers on the tip of the cap. When those were banned, they used their cell phones to test people for answers. Now they are using ipods and downloading recorded media players of the information they need to pass the test. Schools accross the nation are now banning ipods because of this. Here is the link to this article:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070427/ap_on_hi_te/ipod_cheating

I didnt even know people would do something like this. I wouldn't of even think of cheating like that, well let alone cheat on tests. I thought people listen to ipods to concitrate on tests and when getting bored in class after getting work down, listen to them. I guess not. Wow this is really cool to read about how people cheat.

Poems!

Today we did peer conferencing and it went pretty good. My picture was of me, standing on the sand at the beach of Gulf Shores. The poem is describing a girl going into the water and waiting for a wave to ride, but she has great fear is doing so.

Ride the Waves

She awoke to the heat of the early August morning

Humidity stuck in the air from the gulf, which lay yards away

She would go out to the beautiful beach, while the sun hit her back with unbelievable heat

How peaceful it was that day

Happiness overtook her with great power

She walked out further and further into the water, fearing the massive ocean might take her

The waves moved strongly, and hit her with great force

They seemes to be angry with her

She held the tube tightly in her arm, praying to God that she would live through this

Her father stood beside her, waiting for her to get on the tube

She did, and shook with nerves, as they waited for a worthy wave to approach

Here it came, with much intensity

She screamed, not from being scared, but from excitement, as it brought her back to shore

She stood up with confidence, and walked out into the water

To ride the waves again

I know it's long, and I still have some revising to do!

Not Quite As Good As Shakespeare

TOTALLY TRAPPED
I sit on the floor rolled into a ball
As I hear the guard outside my cell chuckling into thin air.
I gaze into the dead eyes of my Barbie, who is my only companion.
I look up at my mom, whose face is hidden behind the little lens of the obsolete camera,
As if documenting my every movement within these bars
With each random burst of blinding light.
I beg and I mooch to abandon this place.

I come back to reality, hearing my mischievous sister's laughter.
The rusting cage around me appears to be closing in around me,
Like a boa getting ready to squeeze its prey.
After continuous minutes of pleading, my sister smiles as if she has just won a race
And she lifts the cage, after being trapped for an eternity,
Off of the living room floor and I bolt to my feet,
Alleviated to be out in the open once again.

Okay, this is not as great as the poetry in Romeo & Juliet, but it is a work in progress. Please let me know what you think I should revise. Do I use enough Poetic Devices? Senses? Vocabulary? I would greatly appreciate it if you would take some time to help my poem be the best that it can be! =) Thanks, and have a great weekend! P.S. I'll be sure to scan my picture for my poem on this post over the weekend!

Ocean's Fear

Ocean’s Fear

Ocean’s face changes as fast as an
Ocean’s wave crashes.
Fear fly’s across the face
And doubt surfaces like a volcano about to explode.
The cushion of the bed of which they sit on
gives the body a sense of rest.

The cool blue color of the room
endows a feeling of peace.
As the mysterious object approaches
The fear gets stronger.

The heat of the moment heats up inside.
And a tremble shoots through the skin.
Suddenly it’s over.
The flash takes place.

The picture is taken.

Writing Poems

I actually had a lot of fun writing my poem last night. Usually I hate writing poetry and it is really hard for me but this time it didn't seem so bad. At first I was going to write about the show I did at Silver Dollar City this spring but then I decided to write about my favorite place in the world to vacation, the ocean. Because I love the ocean so much it wasn't hard at all to think of the things that I smell and hear when I am there. When I lived in Texas we used to go all the time to Galveston and swim and play in the Gulf of Mexico. It was a blast and I have so many wonderful memories from going there. We would build sand castles, get knocked down by waves, or search for sea shells. The only bad part was the nasty sea weed that was every where. Another fond memory I have of the ocean, is when I went on a cruise to the Bahamas when I was in 6th grade. The ocean was absolutley perfect. It was this gorgeous clear, crystal turquise. It was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. The sand was also perfectly white and clean. While I was there, I drank the milk out of a coconut. Surprisingly, it was very yummy. My favorite part of the cruise was when my mom, dad, and I got to swim with dolphins. They were so cute except the water was really cold. I hope to venture back to the ocean some day. I miss it so much. It is the one place I feel completely at peace. I don't even know what words to use to describe it.
So this weekend we have to revise our poems. It is going to be very difficult for me to find things to change because I am so happy with how my poem turned out. I hope I can find some good ways to use some poetic devices that our not cheesy. The revising stage is always the most difficult step for me in all writing. Well I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend. Have fun working on your poems!!!

The First!

Earlier in the year I had told you all about another show that I am in called Raising America! We are learning lots of new dances and I think we are going to add another segment to the show!! So tonight we have our first Raising America show of the year and I am really excited but a little nervous because I have to dance with a new partner!! Plus I have to sing this one song that I haven't sang or practiced for a while called "Where the Boys Are?" I hope everyone in my show does well and that we perform the best we can!! I believe that you should give everyone the best show you can give even to the smaller audiences...a very wise young lady told me that when I didn't feel like giving my best...thank you!!

Free verse poetry

I like to write poetry using free verse because I do not like have to find different ways to use poetic devises. I think that if you are not a professional poet and you try too hard to rhyme or have a beat.
I am glad that we were able to use free verse peotry so that we did not have to worry about making out poems rhyme, because it would make us look like really bad writers.

Blogging

So I'm reading Romeo and Juliet and it's starting to get easier for me. I like watching the movie though better. It's a lot easier for me to see it instead of reading it. Blogging is getting harder and harder for me because i feel like i'm running out of stuff to say. Anyone else? I used to be so excited to blog, but now I feel like i should blog about english and stuff related to class. I don't know anymore. Well I'm out of stuff to write about so I'll blog again later.

Hockey is Life

My picture was of me playing hockey

I have ice in my blood

It keeps me on edge

Always ready for the next drop of the puck,

The next big hit,

screaming fans,

blood on the ice

Whether mine or theirs

This is my crusade.

Rubber in the Twine,

Gatorade in the Cup,

Going all out on every play,

Never leting anyone beat me to the puck

Accepting nothing but victory

Playing fearless end to end

always with the same intensity,

Not just dreaming about the highlight reel but being in it

Leaving everything on the ice

whatever it takes,

I will never give up

Hockey is Life

My picture poem.

My picture was of my father and me. We were at a country dance for Girl Scouts. My poem used many details and poetic devices. This is my poem.
Excitement filled me up.
Not knowing what to expect,
We walked in together being dressed alike.
As we went in a smell so tempting greeted us at the door.
It turned into a delight of food like one would find at the Dixie Stampede.
Then we danced in a square and in a line.
We all gathered around in a shpare of a horse's shoe.
To find out who surpassed who.
In my mind I was ready for triumph,
Names were being called,
I was filled hope,
Waiting to hear mine,
Finally it came,
We had won for the reason that we were best dressed.
I like my poem. I think that it explains what happened that night very well. Like other posts I also do believe that poetry is personal because it something that you create. In some poetry people might feel like they should keep it to themselevs, but they shouldn't. Writing poetry can be hard for that reason; not wanting to put yourself out there to much. I like this assignment it was good to get a chance to create my own poetry.

Poetry

Poetry

I really like free verse poetry
I think its a lot easier then essays
The words come out a lot easier
But i don't like doing poetry for class though
I don't like using the poetic devises
Because that's not me
I think they make my poems sound cheesy
My poetry is too personal
It's not gonna be in a book or something like that
So why does it need to be a certain way?
I like my poems how i like them

By the way heres a website i found about poetry around the world

Understand???

As we have gotten farter into the story, Romeo and Juliet i am beginning to understand the true meaning of it. Young love simply. The movies are really cool, but the newer one is kind of weird. ha. but i like the original one too. Also its really neat to read something different than what we read today. It's difficult but it makes it fun, and if you really think about it, it come easier. I appreciate the No fear shakespear..but, i dont know what would happen if you just read the original text because you are able to read the easier version on No fear sSakespear. I'm really enjoying the story so far! I hope you are too!
~pink power ranger

Why!

Why am I good at poetry and yet i am terrible at almost everything I do that is English related!!! I breezed through my writing today and it isn't so masculine, but I liked writing it. It was nice to write poetry so I could get things I have been thinking about for a long time out of my head. I would rather write poetry than essays that is for sure.

Competion and poetry

This weekend I have a big science competition.I haven't really studied that much for it though. It is in Columbia and I get out of school after 3rd block.I have three events and I have to take a test for each one.In the regional competition I placed 2nd in one of my events and 5th in the other.Wish me good luck! I loved doing the picture poetry!I have alot of fun choosing the right words for my poem.I liked reading and seeing other people's poems and pictures. At first I thought that it would be kind of hard because I had to write a long poem that was free verse, but I ended up liking it in the end!

Picturing a Poem!

Creating a poem that is from a picture is challenging at the beginning. if you have your own picture that you know what it looks like then it would be a little easyer because you would already know what is in the picture. but in the situation like mine i had to look at everything and write down all the things in the picture and when i started writing everythng then i would notice something differnt about the picture so it is basically writing about nothing because it is a pic that you have never seen befor!

Practice!!

On Tuesday, I went to Branson again!! It wasn't for fun and games though but instead I went to do some hard core practicing! We have to learn this new dance to the old song that everybody knows "We Go Together!" This dance is the fastest and funnest dance I have ever learned!! It was so hard to learn though it took me about two and half hours to get it down just perfect! We had to practice in my friend Laura's garage and it was a two way garage so we could get lots of air! Then in the middle of while we were practicing it started puring down rain and their dog named Bear ran inside the garage and almost tripped one of us while we were dancing!! I had so much fun that night and I love spending time with my friends even if I have to work hard to learn a new dance!

Poetry!

In class today I had so much fun trying think of a picture to use for my poem! Then I finally found the perfect one of me and my friends in the lake at Moonshine Beach. That day was so amazing, so I just wrote my poem about how felt, and what I did there! If no one minds I will give you a little sample of the beggining of my poem:

Me and my gang

We happily link our toes to the rocks below

Getting caught up in the moment of playing marko-polo

Feeling as joyous as the fishies below

What did you think of the first lines? I was pretty excited about the writing and can't wait to make it even better by the drafts that we are going to do!

Picture picture picture!

Today in class we are going to work with pictures and poems. The picture I brought to class today was a picture of my brother, my dad and I at a cardinals baseball game. Our family are huge fans the cardinals games so we often go to them. In the picture we are in the stands really happy because we got really good seats. I also chose this picture because I know alot about it and I know who took the picture and who is in the picture. I can usually write easier poems and story's when I know alot about the topic I have to write about how about you?

Childhood Memories

At first I really wasn't sure what picture to chose for class but, I chose a picture of myself when I was a little kid. (that is not me in the picture) In the picture I am at a pumpkin patch in my old town in Ohio. It brings back a lot of memories that I can write about such as my old friends, my old house, holidays, and basically just growing up. I think that it is really important to remember the kid inside of you. Younger kids are so carefree and they just live their lives to the fullest. Even though it is important to work hard in life, it is also important to just enjoy yourself and have fun! I am interested to see how we are going to use these pictures!

vocab does it help?

I believe that the vocab has really helped me to understand the reading even more. By looking up each of the words i can learn them and then apply them into the play. This way i understand the scenes that i may not hav before. Such as the word pun. When i learned that it meant a word with a double meaning different scenes began to make more since. Also it allowed me to answer the questions on the study guid. About the study guide, i think it is really long but overall i think it will be helpful in the end. What do you guys think about all of this?

Jim Gaffigan

Jim Gaffigan!!
That is all I have to say to explain him...just kidding! Jim is one of the funniest comedians I have ever seen!! He is so good at making people laugh! He takes every day common things and takes funny to the next level! For instance, he makes jokes about hot pockets and how they are old meat and a pocket and they might as well call it a dead pocket! Then another one of his jokes is about Fruit Cake!! "Fruit good, cake great, fruit cake...nasty crap!! I mean I don't even think that is fruit in that stuff...you take a bit and you're like what a skittle!! It is like the baker put all of his left over scraps on the on the counter and scooted them into a bowl and said I think I'll mix it together and call fruit cake!" The jokes of his makes me laugh so much! So I suggest that you go out and rent his comedy show! It is amazing!!

Shakespeare's Perspective

If William Shakespeare were to watch the modern movie of his story,"The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet," I believe that he would absolutely hate it and view it as a butchered version of what his message was and was trying to get across to the audience. I do not think that the modern day movie was what Bill wanted it to be viewed as. However, I do like the movie a lot better than the book because it is actually interesting and is more enjoyable than the actual play. Anyone feel the same way?

Branson Track Meet!!

Today during our English class our track team left for our meet in Branson! It was so much fun but of course I was really nervous because I had to run the mile sub six and I hadn't trained in about 2weeks!! So I got to my race and in the end I pulled off a 6:10 but it was better than my last race which was 6:18! So increased by 8seconds which wasn't to bad but not what I wanted...anyhow at the very end of the meet when the two mile boys were racing it started to pour down rain and lightning!! It was so much fun because we got soaked but we didn't get to finish the meet!! We still had one more event to run!! That is OK though because like half our team was gone today! So I had a fantastic time and I love to run!!! :)

Rhyme Time!

I really love poetry!I'm not very good at righting it,but I think it is so much fun.I like the rhyme kind the best.I really like Shell Silverstein. He is like a classic to me.I remember in elementary school I had a art teacher named Mrs.Crisp ,and before we left her class she would read Shell Silverstein's work. The poem I loved the most was "I wrapped myself in toilet paper" and the one about the robot that ate all the little boy's food so he wouldn't get poisoned. Now that I read those poems they don't have the same effect on me as they did when Mrs.Crisp would read them.I loved the poetry we did at the begging of class.I wish I would have gotten to hear others poems.Oh about the picture I love horses, and I have heard cowboy poetry.I like alot of it.

Mercutio = Fruitcake

After seeing the video of Romeo and Juliet, I have lost all respect for the character of Mercutio. Anyone who crossdresses to a party and then even acts just like a woman, gives me some doubt about them. The way the director depicted Mercutio made me not necessarily disgusted, but I was a little scared. Does anyone else feel the same way?

FCA

I am going to be leading the FCA meeting this Friday! I am pretty nervous about it but I think that I have a really good message for anyone who would like to hear it! I could really use your support and I hope to see you there! It is in the auditorium at seven fifteen!

The perfect picture

I came home from open gym today and my mind immediatly began to ponder what picture I would use for the poetry assignment in class. It was like and answer to my prayers because as soon as I walked into my room I saw a picture that had fallen off of my wall. I picked it up and it was a picture of the time my frinds and I went splunking with my youth group. Hardly any one showed up tho this trip except for the three of us and a couple other guys. We thought that the trip would be horrible seeing as we were the only other girls that were going, but it turned out to be great. The best part was getting all dirty. We wore old grubby camo clothes. I loved going through the mud tunnels. It was an extremely long passage that you had to army crawl through because it was only around two feet in diameter. This trip was a blast!

What would you do, in a situation, like mine?

Ok. can any one help me! In my forth period class, there are some people in that class that I can not stand! They are mean, self centered, and I cant learn a thing in that class! Today, people were throwing food, and they talk about things I cant even understand! I have a perfectly fine day, until my last class! Ugh people just make me soo mad! I really feel sorry for my teacher! She even tells us were her worst class! Ugh!!
But the day is almost over! I get to go home, take a nap, read a little Romeo and Juliet, get caught up on study guide, and
play some basketball!!

Can you believe some of the costumes?

Can you believe some of the costumes that are worn in this movie? Some of them are appropriate and some are just interesting. I think that they totally ruined the character of Mercutio in the modern movie. I would have liked to seen him in a different costume. I do understand though that they were going to a ball so it could have just been his costume but still it kind of did me in. Overall though I love watching the movie because it kind of brings Romeo and Juliet into our time. I am excited that we are actually getting into the part where Romeo and Juliet are falling for each other. I actually am beginning to understand the text as I read it and I am loving it actually more than I thought I would. Well, I hope everyone else is doing well with Romeo and Juliet. Hope everyone has a good week!

Injuries!!! :P

As you probably already know in the past year I have suffered from a stress fracture! I haven't had an injury since that time in my life, which has been like 4months! Then guess what happens I just have to get another leg problem except it is not with my left but no my good old right leg!! You see, about 2weeks ago I went to the Doctor and he said I had to lay off for about 2weeks because I had Post Tibial Tendinitis!! Yuck! I hate injuries! So a suggestion to all of you out there who are involved in sports just be smart and take care of your body! I do have some good news though I get to run in tomorrws meet because it has been two weeks!! So wish me luck on running the mile!! :)

My thoughts on things

I'm really enjoying this play.I really want to read the balcony scene I bet it will be the best part in the play except maybe besides their death. The old movie is my favorite out of the two.The old one gives a better setting and has more interesting costumes.Everything just goes together like the pieces of a puzzle.I dislike the new movie though I get a modern understanding of the play.I loathed The movie Moulin Rouge which is the director of Romeo and Juliet the new one. When I rented that movie in the first five min I turned it off.I gave it another chance when I watched it at my friends house, but I didn't like it at all.

LOVE

Learning how to dance

Only understanding every other word of the play

Victoriouse feeling of desifering the language

Eventually finding out it is not that hard to understand
I think that it is interesting what we have been doing in class to understand shakespear it really helps me to know what is going on and really get into the story of romeo and juliet.

Ya about the modern movie

The movie really didn't help me see what was actually going on in the story. It mostly made me go cross-eyed because modern actors dont usually say those sort of lines. The fact that there were cars and guns didnt help me with the visual part either. I'm not really good at the whole imagery thing anyway though so i dont understand the story as it is! The no fear shakespeare site really helps me understand the text which is why i read it online instead of out of the book when we have reading assignments.

LOVE IS IN THE AIR!!!!!

I think that Romeo and Juliet is a good story, it makes you think of how they both loved eachother even when they both find out that they are rivals. As you see in this picture they love eachother very much. I think that it is a good experinence to see how they talked back in the old days and i believe that it will help us in the long run. well i cant wait to get futher into the story.

Allusion

Main Entry: al·lu·sion

Pronunciation: &-'lü-zh&n

Function: noun

Etymology: Late Latin allusion-, allusio, from Latin alludere

1 : an implied or indirect reference especially in literature; also : the use of such references

2 : the act of alluding to or hinting at something - al·lu·sive /-'lü-siv, -ziv/ adjective - al·lu·sive·ly adverb - al·lu·sive·ness noun

This is what allusion means according to Merriam Webster. Here is the link for more words

Two topics

I think that the dancing part of the Romeo and Juliet lesson was really fun and creative. It made me see how different the dancing really was back then. I didn't like the dancing in the new version of Romeo and Juliet because it wasn't realistic. I did however like the costumes of Romeo, Juliet, and Tybalt because it corresponded with their personalities. Romeo was a knight in shining armor, Juliet was an angel, and Tybalt was a devil stirring up trouble. I did not like Mercutio's costume because I did not see how his personality was anything like a woman.

I commented on the Virginia Tech Massacre and some of you seemed curious about what I said so here is the whole story. I was driving through Topeka, Kansas. I saw a church that was protesting the Virginia Tech Massacre Memorial/Funerals because they thought that the Massacre was caused of provoked by gay people. The church had a sign that said, "God hates gay people." It made me furious that any church could do this because Christians believe that God hates the sin and loves the sinner. I share this belief. God loves all of us unconditionally but He doesn't like our sin. I think that any side bar conflict that would be brought up like this church did is totally beside the point. The point is that a terrible crime happened and it shouldn't have happened no matter who was involved. I think that this church in Kansas is pretty messed up.

Romeo and Juliet: the Movies.

I like both the old movie and the new.

The Old: the old movie is very interesting and makes a lot more since than the new one. In the old one it is based on the story and that is it. It is not confusing, but it is somewhat boring.

The New: the new movie is very entertaining. I like this one a lot because it is modern (except the speaking) and we can relate. The man who directs this movie is the director of Moulin Rouge. In that movie it reminds me of Romeo and Juliet in a lot of ways. In Moulin Rouge the couple Christian and Satine must hide their love from everyone who works at the Moulin Rouge because they can't fall in love. At the end Satine dies of a deadly disease and before she dies she asks Christian to write a story of their love. It takes place in France in 1899. This is a lot like Romeo and Juliet so I found it somewhat interesting whenever I made the connection. And when he made the movie Romeo and Juliet he used a lot of modern music which is like what he did in Moulin Rouge.

Metaphor

Main Entry: met·a·phor
Pronunciation: 'me-t&-"for also -f&r
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English methaphor, from Middle French or Latin; Middle French metaphore, from Latin metaphora, from Greek, from metapherein to transfer, from meta- + pherein to bear -- more at BEAR

1 : a figure of speech in which a word or phrase literally denoting one kind of object or idea is used in place of another to suggest a likeness or analogy between them (as in drowning in money); broadly : figurative language -- compare SIMILE
2 : an object, activity, or idea treated as a metaphor : SYMBOL 2 - met·a·phor·ic /"me-t&-'for-ik, -'fär-/ or met·a·phor·i·cal /-i-k&l/ adjective - met·a·phor·i·cal·ly /-i-k(&-)lE/ adverb

Thats is what metaphor means according to Merriam Webster. Here is the link to the website.

ROMEO!

We are reading Romeo and Juliet. I think that it is a really good story and I think its kind of cool to learn about the old time days. I really like the movie that we are watching though, its like a remake of the old play. It has good music to complement the modern day 'love stories' and 'love scenes'. The play is fun to read though because each person can have their own part and sort-of get a feel for the story. They speak very very different language so it is hard to read and comprehend sometimes but for the most part its fun to see how they talked and how different it is from now:)

So You Think You Can Dance?!

So does anyone here think that they can dance? I doubt you can dance as well as the people from Shakespears time period. I thought that the little dance off we had was really fun, even though the dance was a little weird I thought that it was pretty cool. I wonder what Shakespear would do if he tried to do the dance that many of us know called "the bump-and-grind". That would be pretty funny. Well input anyone?

Put your dancin' shoes onn! :D

So the past two days, we have been dancing. It was some different dancing, but fun at the same time. My partner and I got it down pretty well. It was fun because we dont really do anything very "active" in class and that was fun. When we did it, i kind of felt silly but it was okay. I mean not everyone did it but the majority of the class did! The dancing today is sooo much different than the dancing back then. I wonder what all of the people back in Romeo and Juliet time would think of the dancing now, because i know that i think the dancing back then was a little bit different. But I hope everyone enjoyed the dancing as much as i did! Have a good day! :)

~Pink Power Ranger

The movie...

Romeo and Juliet is a great tragedy/love story but the modern day version of it is really weird!! The new one starring Leonardo DiCaprio is so different!! I mean they use guns instead of swords and wear the modern day clothes...but still talk in the old text...I thought it was pretty strange. Right before the ball scene Mercutio shows up and does his Queen Mab speech...but he was dressed in women's clothing not to mention there wasn't much of the clothing there! If you didn't noticed he had an Afro on and lots of makeup! That is really strange...but I thought he was a funny character but they portray him so differently in both of the movies! What do you think?

The movie

Does anyone else think that the movie ruins the story? It changes Shakespeare's work into something totally different. The director even switches the script around, I'm sure Shakespeare would be horrified by the changes. Oh well, at least I know what's going on in the movie.

Berry's and Cream

Wow so our class is defiantly going way off on a random starburst topic? I can see though the relationship with Romeo and Juliet and because the guy does have a Romeo and Juliet attire on and he does speak with a weird accent. haaa

Well witch movie do you like better the new one or the old Romeo and Juliet? The new movie is alto easier to understand, but is kinda weird with the setting. The old one is hard to understand but has a better setting.
all about the movie http://www.romeoandjuliet.com/

Arranged Marriages

Personally, I think that arranged marriages are completely unfair. Back in Shakespeare's time, getting married to someone didn't mean that you loved them. Today marriage is solely based on love. Wouldn't that be horrible to have to spend the rest of your life with someone who you don't really love or even like! The marriages were based on wealth and social classes. Even today people are judged by those standards. Love and marriage, however should not be based on those factors.

Dancing!!

Oh my gosh the dancing we did yesterday and today was so much fun!! It is really hard to believe how much dancing has changed from that time period till now. My favorite part was the little kicking thing at the end. Well anyways, I read Act II Scene 1 and 2 last night and they were so good. I would have to agree with Ms. James that the balcony scene by far has been the best scene. The poetry was absolutely beautiful. I loved it. I can't wait to watch that part on the movie and read it in class so I can understand it even more. Romeo and Juliet is just getting better and better as I read more. Oh yes and how I could I forget the Starburst commercials were hilarious. I loved watcing them. Thanks so much super women for sharing those with us. It was a lot of fun.
So both of the movies have been really good so far. I personally have enjoyed the older one better because it is more believeable. During the Capulet ball in the newer film, the costumes that characters wore made it a lot easier to be able to depict the good from the bad. They had Tybalt dressed as a devil, Romeo dressed as a knight and then Juliet dressed as an angel. Those costumes were all perfect for those characters. The whole thing with the pill during Mercutio's speech and the other extra little things they added in I felt didn't really help me understand the play any better. And having Mercutio as a cross dresser, I had no clue what to think about that. I never pictured him as being like that so it kind of messed up the image I had of him. I don't think Shakespeare would like the newer version very much because I feel a lot of the stuff they added or changed took away from the story. Also, with it being in modern times and all with them still speaking in Shakespearean I felt they were kind of making fun of it the play. I am really excited to read on and watch more of the movie to find out what will happen next.

I wish people can love like Romeo and Juliet

Well I love, love stories, and the story of Romeo and Juliet are one of the most powerful love stories. Which gives me every right to love the story!! Were watching the modern day version of Romeo and Juliet, and its interesting! We will just have to see how the story ends up!!

What Is In a Name?

I am having a little bit of a hard time reading Romeo and Juliet, but I am doing better than I was. This scene is very interesting because that is where I get confused. What do Romeo and Juliet finally agree to do after they confess their love? It is kind of difficult. Ughhh. But I do feel bad that Romeo and Juliet can't love each other. It is sad that back in the day you can't love who you want and your parents are the ones who pick the one you marry.

Well the dancing yesterday was very awkward....since it wasn't really "dancing" to me. It was pretty much clapping so I didn't really like it. But I am glad that we finally have a chance to blog today since we haven't gotten the chance to in class for awhile.

What Do You Think?

So we are beginning the balcony scene and I'm actually looking forward to it. It's so romantic. I started reading it, and it's difficult reading, but it's pretty good. I really like love stories, so I'll probably like the rest of the story. Romeo was so in love with Juliet, and he was really poetic and romantic. It would be nice every once in a while to have guys today, like they were back then. You would feel a lot more special. But then again, it wouldn't seem as real, compared to back then.

We were asked to blog about what we thought of the Romeo and Juliet movie that we were watching. Some of the costumes at the ball kind of gave some ideas about the characters. Tybalt was a devil, showing that he was a "bad guy" in the movie. Romeo was the knight, maybe to show that he would be Juliet's knight and shining armor. Juliet was the angel to possibly show that she was the good girl of the movie and she had purely honest intentions, and she wasn't bad. To me, Shakespeare would have felt very angry to see this film version, but I don't know who he is or what is personality is like. But he could be upset because of the way they have interpreted the story. He might have pictured it in a different way. I definitely pictured it in a different way.

So, I hope all of you are enjoying Romeo and Juliet.

What would Shakespeare think?

VS.

I think that Shakespeare would not be very happy withe the newer version of
Romeo and Juliet for many reasons.
I think this because the way that
the movie director viewed how the characters
should act and how they dress.
I think that in the newer movie the
way that some of the characters dressed,
such as how Mercutio dressed in act one scene 2,
ruined the real purpose of the scene.
And the way that Mercutio, in that same
scene, give an actual drug to Romeo,
instead of using it as a metaphor or the way that
Shakespeare wanted it to be.
So personally I think that Shakespeare
would not be happy with the newer version of
Romeo and Juliet because it gave different
views and perspectives that ruined the
feelings of love and romance
that Shakespeare had planned.

heart shaped pill

The scene in the movie where he gets the heart shaped pill i believe took away from shakespears true meaning of love. I belive that the pill represented that the dream fairy was a drug to romeo when really dreams were what romeo needed to be relying on. He needed to follow his dreams not consider them a drug. I dont believe that Shakespear would have liked the way that the director used the pill. the pill brought everyone out of the true feeling of romeo and juliet in love. Even though the pill might have been representing love as a drug we still lose focus of what is the real story. Do you guys agree or do you think shakespear would have liked the heart shaped pill?

romeo and juliet

Shakespheare is getting easier to understand. I am not enjoying it though. I would like it better if all we did was read the modern version. I do like the original because I would rather just have the meaning plainly said. Trying to understand the play got easier with using No Fear Shakespheare.

GoSSip GirLs =]

I have started reading the Gossip girls.. I love them i have not had much time to read lately but the time that i have, i have really enjoyed it. I think that its filled with drama just like real life.It seems like i can totally relate. Which i havent really found a book so close to real life but this one is defenantly! I love them! but i also just finished Travel Team and that was a good book too i thought. It was relative also. I play on a travling basketball team so i could relate in that way, and that the players in it are very commited like i am. Also i just want to say that im enjoyiung romeo and Juliet too! its confusing but good! ill see everyone later! :D

Something Different!

Today in class was so fun and amazing!! I had so much fun learning the new dance! At first I was kinda iffy about it but then I saw how fun it could be when you put yourself out there!! It was a pretty easy dance but made you feel silly! It is so weird how much different our dances are in today's society then back in that era! If someone danced like that at one of our dances people would probably stare and laugh because it is so funny looking and different!
Anyways...Romeo and Juliet is turning out to be really good! I am a sucker for the love sap stories especially young love but I don't know if you would exactly call it that because they are self absorbed. I like how it is going so far because with the movie and the "No Fear Shakespeare" it is a lot easier to understand and I am even beginning to understand it with out those sources! How about everyone else?

Berry's && Cream Berry's && cream!!!

The lad on starburst was hillarious to watch in class today. If you didn't see it today go to this link. The dancing thing that we did today was kinda dumb. ha ha. Well anyways, I'm so glad that we are finally got to the part where Romeo & Juliet meet. It is getting a lot better, and I am getting into the play a lot more. I'm excited to move on through the story. When Romeo & Juliet first met, the words they spoke to each other were beautiful. They are very romantic. I'm very glad we are getting into the romance of the story.

A Fresh Start!!

Hey everybody it is me again!! Guess what! Our shows are starting again for Silver Dollar City...a brand new one....finally! It gets old doing the same show over and over again. I am so excited about learning the new songs and new dances!! I think our main theme for the Summer Show is bluegrass music but there are also other varieties included in the show too. So we started our rehearsals this Saturday and it was so much fun making new friends and just meeting new people. We learned a lot of new songs but we haven't learned any of our new dances yet because first we have to learn the songs....of course! My favorite song is "The Walk" because it is very up beat and is made for people that have a lot of soul in their voices and it sounds cool when people sing it! Plus it has a really good message to it! It is so nice to have a fresh start!

I agree...

I agree with other people in the class! Romeo and Juliet is getting much easier to read now that we are getting to the love story part of it. To day we danced in class! I loved it! Ha me and my partner where the best! I can't believe they actual danced like that it is so weird! I like our dancing that we do now. They are probably going to look back on us and say our dancing is weird.

So at this time I am still reading gossip girls and loving it!

Here is a link on how they danced back then! http://www.artslynx.org/dance/romeo_and_juliet.htm

Moving on up

to #5! I love Gossip Girls. There is a lot in there that you can relate to this school, and our lifes. I've never been so into these books! I love it! I can't wait to finish this series. So, I have been extremely busy in my free reading book. A lot of reading is going on with me between Romiet and Juliet and Gossip Girl.

Romeo and Juliet is getting alot better as the love story part is coming out. Its actually getting me into the story. I want to know what happens still! Well intill then...

wow

ok. im sorry if anyone gets mad at this post but ive got to say this. Blooging every week 2 times a week is hard for me. i always forget and at the last moment i blog and dont get the good of a grade because i cant post that much. Plus my dad and my mom have been in a huge fight these past couple of weeks. I know this is complaining but im sorry that i cant keep up with this. I know a few others cant either. But ive tryed my hardest. Romio and Juliet is a great play and i love reading it in class.

Mercutio Is a Woman?!

Did anyone else find it odd that the director of this movie portrayed Mercutio as a cross dressor? I mean why would he even put that in there, Shakespear never said anything about Mercutio being a cross-dressor. But who knows, this director seems to be a little odd himself.
Heres a little Link that helps describe Mercutio's role a little bit. Well, give me some input...!!

A Little Too Forward?!? ♥

Well things are really heating up in Romeo & Juliet!! But what I didn't think was realistic is the thought that Romeo was so forward towards Juliet at the party. I mean sure, nowadays, it would be normal, but in the 16Th century?!? For heaven's sake, I don't think that a Count would just walk up to a stranger and start making moves on her! That would be tacky and uncalled for. Maybe I am being to critical, but I just can't see that happening. But maybe this is what makes the story so interesting and this whole event might even get the ball rolling to the next Act! The only thing left to do is read...and see what happens!!

The Blue Angels

I don't know how many people know about this but yesterday there was a pilot for the famous Navy Blue Angels that clipped a tree during an airshow and crashed his plane and died. This was a horrible incident. For those who do not know the Blue Angels are the ones who also are shown flying over a big time sporting events right after the National Anthem. Lt. Cmdr. Kevin J. Davis was the pilot that was killed, he was in his second year with the Angels and that show was his first. Our prayers go out to his family!

12 Hours of Good,Clean Fun!

This Friday, the Kickapoo Superchicks met at 7:00pm at Glendale, for the 2007 All-Youth Relay for Life. If any of you have heard of it, you would know that it is an ACS based charity event that raises money for the cure to cancer. It was a wonderful experience, and I am happy to say that our group raised the most amount of money than any other Kickapoo group! We raised a total of $2,222, and we also sold the most Luminarias than any other team that paticipated. This event wasn't really about winning anything, it was really just some students getting together for a great cause!

On Friday, we camped out with about 72 other teams on the Glendale Football field for 12hours! It was very exciting to get the chance to spend 12hours with all of my friends! We ate hot dogs, drank a ton of energy drinks, sold Andy's Ice Cream, and walked about 37 miles all together! It was a really good experience and I was glad that everyone was having fun while doing a good deed! I'd like to thank everyone who participated this year, and hopefully next year, all you other bloggers will be apart of Relay for Life!!! Until then!!
~LMS~

P.S. Click here to see the ACS website!!

The Virginia Tech Massacre

That is horrible what happened at Virginia Tech. I don't get how any person could do something like that and go out and kill 32 people, heck I don't know how a person could kill anyone. I guess people making fun of others can really hurt someone, to think the killers at Columbine several years ago said they did it for the same reason too. I guess if people stop bullying each other and stop making fun of others other horrible incidents like this could be prevented, hopefully. Just think about and pray for the victims family's and the survivors. They will get past this!

Pre's last race

Pre was a running phenom and he new it but he had lost his drive after not placing at the 1972 Olympics in Munich. Pre thought that he was a tougher in Eugene so he thought that he would get a little tour going over in the US for a few international races in the US other than the Olympics. The last race of the tour Pre won and he went to a few parties with his girlfriend but he never really had to much to drink. He went to one last party where his parents were to celebrate that the tour was over. He talked to his coach about how he wanted to train for the Olympics in Montreal in 1976 after that he said his goodbyes and took his friend Frank Shorter and his girlfriend Nancy home. After dropping off Frank he was headed home himself and when he took a turn at the bottom of the hill he misjudged the turn and slammed his car into a big rock. Pre was dead before the paramedics got to him. Steve Prefontaine died in the early morning of May 30th. Pre died at age twenty-four right in the middle of his prime. Here's a link to a site with Pre's rock and his last race.

Drama - A new book I am reading

I have started a new book. The book that I am reading is Drama The four Dorothys. It is about a school of performing arts in California. Only 200 people attend the school. The story is narrated by a boy who attends the school. In the first part of the book he tells you a secret of his that did turn me off to the book at first. Then it was not a major part of the book and did not distract from the real problem. The school is putting on the play Wizard of Oz with four different Dorthys. Someone in the school is trying to get all of them to quit the play. In book the narrator has to find out who it is. This is a great book. I fully recommend this book.

Romeo and Juliet (the movies)

So Romeo and Juliet finally met. The play ia actually starting to get exciting now. I can't wait to read on and see how their love story unfolds. Both of the movies we watched were really good although very different. They helped me understand the story a whole lot better since I could see everything for myself. I actually liked the older version a lot better because the newer version I felt was kind of making fun of Shakespeare. If they would have used modern speech it would have been a lot better. Yeah the cross dresser Mercutio was really creepy. I feel the older version helped me understand the play even better because it took place in the real time period Shakespeare meant for the play to be in. Shakespeare is becoming easier and easier for me to read. I can actually understand most of the time what they are talking about. I'm really looking forward to reading more this week. Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. Is everyone excitied about dancing tomorrow?? Well see you then!!

Roberto's Story

So far Fire in the Hills really has been as good as the original. I have read about half of it and it is still a gripping story about a young boy caught in the middle of a world war trying to find his way home to Italy. It is one of the only books i have really actually wanted to read on the weekend! Which reminds me i have some reading to do to get my full 100 pages for this week.

From Bad To Worse

Have you ever had a day that makes you feel like nothing is going right? Well let me share mine. On Friday I got out of school and waited fourty five minutes for my mom. I found out that her car had broken down and a belt had come loose or something. She finally made it to pick me up and then we went home to pack for my tournament in Topeka, Kansas. My dad looked at the car and found out that he couldn't fix the problem because he didn't have an extra part. My mom and I tried to find a ride but had no luck. We settled for using our little truck which barely holds two people. To make it worse my brother and dad had just left to go to Tulsa with my grandpa to race cars. My brother took his keys to the truck. My mom and I had no choice but to drive thirty minutes out to my grandpa's shop in the convertible and then go back for the truck. You are probably asking why we didn't take the convertible? Well it has really bad gas mileage and it also has a small problem. We had to cram some of the luggage into the inside of the truck and put the rest in the back in plastic bags because we were expecting rain. The five hour drive to Kansas was very "cozy." Finally we got to Kansas and I was wiped out. I fell asleep as soon as we got to the hotel. What a weekend!

watching the movie

I have to say that i did not enjoy the remake of romeo and juliet with leonardo. I thought it was almost making fun of shakespear. I could not take the story seriousely at all. Though i did like the other version. I thought that one did a good job of potraying the play. If shakespear were still around today i believe he would like the older version better. Beside the point i was watching the prince and me and for one of the scenes they were desifereing the shakespearian language. It was really cool the main girl did not understand what it meant so then the main guy had to teach it to her. I think it is interesting when we are learning about something in class and then we see it in everyday movies or tv shows. have you guys noticed that, that happends alot?

Romeo and Juliet

I was very surprised that I ended up liking the movie Romeo and Juliet. Overall it was a good movie but I wasn't too fond of the cross-dresser, it was kind of scary. I can't wait to finish it in class.

I hate bad endings!!:(

I just finished reading 1984 and the ending was absolutely horrible. The ending is supposed to leave you wanting more but this book had me saying no more. I haven't read many books that have had bad endings, but one that sticks out in my mind is the war of the worlds, it was a great book and the movie was even better, but the ending of both were absolutely horrible.

Live long and blog

Movies are a big help

Watching Romeo and Juliet in the modernized version movie really helped a lot. I really enjoyed watching it for one thing but it also explained things to me in a much simpler way. I don't think I would know what is going on in the book if I hadn't watched the movie or read no fear Shakespeare. It is nice to have some resources to go to if you don't always understand the text. I hope that I will continue to like Romeo and Juliet like I am liking it now. I am finally feeling like I am getting the hang of their "language." Hope everyone had a great weekend and see everyone Monday!

Half days are always good!

So I hope everyone enjoyed their half day off school as much as I did. I got to do what I like to do most which is practice and play golf. My friend and I hit golf balls with our coach for almost 2 hours. It was awesome! Even though we got a half day I am so ready for school to be over and summer to begin! Hope everybody had a great weekend.

I don't have to be me 'til Monday

This is my third post so I can write about what ever I want to!!This weekend has been very good!On Friday it was my sister's last day here before she had to go back home.We went out to lunch and went to Silver Dollar City.Saturday morning she left and I had to study for a competition thing that is next Friday. The weather was so nice!I also helped my mom in the Garden, and I got a bad sunburn on my shoulders.Today I slept in because I had to baby-sit until 1ish.I didn't get to go to church so I feel kind of bad. That was my weekend I hope yours was good too.

Forever in Blue

I'm still reading the fourth book in the series of the traveling pants called Forever in Blue.I think this is my favorite book in the series except the first one.The first thing in a series is always best like in movies. The first movie is always the best one or at least you can count on it being pretty good compared to the others.ohh don't read past this part because it tells what happens in the book.Don't read it because it will spoil the book.So far... Carmen:Tried out for a play just for fun and is in the better play of the three plays and is a lead character. Her friend Julia was kind of jealous and didn't speak to her for a while ,but now she is.I thought that it was kind of funny because we were learning about meters in literature, and Julia was helping Carmen learn how to use the meter so she could be a better character in the play. Lena:Finally got over Kostos! He came to visit her and she told him off.She is dating a guy from one of her art classes named Leo. Tibby:Broke up with Brain and Effie asked her if she could go out with him and of course Tibby told her it was Ok ,but was really jealous on the inside.Tibby realized what she did was a mistake and she really misses Brain. Bridget:Kissed this married man named Peter and feels really bad about it.

The book that I am reading

I have not been able to get to the library lately so I just picked up a random book in my basement. It is called Do Fish Drink Water. It is a book full of questions and answers and also fun facts that go along with the questions. The questions are like: What is the origin of the neckties that men wear?
How did grapefruit get its name?
How many colors of M&M's are there?
What is the book that the Statue of Liberty is holding?
What is the origin of the phrase "It's not over until the fat lady sings"?
If you like to learn funny little facts about random things I would say that this is the book for you.
And if you are wondering, Fish do drink water.

I understand the play...with a bit of help

I really like the play so far with the help of no fear Shakespeare. I thought the nurse was so funny because she didn't understand that she was supposed to stop talking. In the translation of the play the nurse was so much funnier because I knew what she was saying. With out the translation I bet I wouldn't even know what in the world she was talking about.I really don't understand the queen Mab speech by Murcuito. Was that just supposed to be a bunch of non-sense,or did it actually mean something? The translation really didn't help me understand that part in fact the speech wasn't any different in the translation than from the play script.

VT

It is awful what happened to the students of Virginia Tech University. I mean imagine if some crazy killer came in to our classroom, what would you do? Your options are pretty limited. I guess you would try not to be an easy target and maybe flip a desk over to protect you. Hopefully we would have laptops out then I would stuff mine in my shirt for protection and cover my head with anything else. We might be able to jump out the window and break through the glass that goes into a art room. Also how crazy does a person have to be to even try to do something like that. It is a crazy world we live in. Remember Virginia Tech!

Wolf Rider

This is my story

There comes a time in every orc’s life his skills are tested. They begin, where that of all orcs begin, in The Vale of Tribulations. Ever since I was born the orcs have expected greatness from me, Thrall Thalas son of Tyron Thallas who is King of all Orcs in Orclantia. My father has expected much of me ever since my brother died in his training. All of Orclantia morned his death and I was the last of the Royal Bloodline of Orcs.

One of my early tests at The Vale of Tribulations was to hunt food for the whole village there. So I went and killed over twenty boars. While I was out killing boars one orc came running in and said he was poisoned by a swarm of scorpions. We tried to rush him to the local apothecary but no antidote was there. After I hunted all the boars I went after the plague of scorpions. I killed all of them except one. It stung me right in the foot. I knew I would soon be overcome with the poison, so I killed it. When it was dead I took a poison sample and rushed to the apothecary. I felt the poison taking control of my entire body. At the apothecary they made the antidote with the remaining ingredient, poison of a scorpion!

With that my training in The Vale of Tribulations was complete. Afterward I headed out to the next and final test of my journey, Thorn Grove.

In Thorn Grove I would face my toughest tests yet. Normally you wouldn’t have to go there if you were just a normal orc, but I was made from greatness. There are the tests for future Wolf Riders, the generals serving under our leader Tyron Thallas. Wolf Riders are the third highest rank in the Orc Government under the King and Queen. But slightly above the princes and princesses. We answer to no one except them.

Thorn Grove first gave me hunting duties, to catch crabs along the coast, but then our commander stationed in Thorn Grove sent me to kill a gang of Centaurs to the west. It turned out they were planning a big invasion to destroy the village of Thorn Grove. The Commander was so proud of me he decided my tasks were going to finish very soon. He gave me my last task and that was to kill the crazed orc Archon.

That night, before my battle with Archon, I had many nightmares. Archon was my uncle and used to be the King of the Orcs. But he soon became power hungry and crazy. So the Wolf Riders, for the first time in Orc history, overthrew him. The leader was my father, our ruler now, Tyron Thallas. Although Archon escaped his execution and fled to islands of Phillipi, southeast of here, he didn’t just go by himself. He took a few goons with him. No one bothered them until my brother was sent to kill them. He killed many of the goons but they were too numerous and out of no where came Archon, bringing a deadly blow to his head. If I succeed in this task then I would receive all the fame and glory of becoming a Wolf Rider. But if I failed, then death was sure to follow.

The next day I set out for my last test. As soon as I got there I saw that the Island was filled with Archon’s goons. I slowly took each one them out as I steadily inched up the hill to where Archon lay in wait. Finally I took out the last three goons and out of the corner of my eye I saw Archon. Then I ducked out of the way of the throwing axe coming right at me. I quickly turned to face him and said, “You missed.”

He shot back, “No orc has ever left my island alive.”

“Your out of companions, your days are numbered!” I snorted.

“Your brother was just as cocky as you,” he shouted.

My orc blood rushed through my veins with the thought of my brother. I gave a battle cry and then charged Archon with my axe in hand. He quickly blocked it with his own axe, but I came down with such mighty force both our axes were destroyed. With no axes it became a fist fight. I threw him a upper cut and then he staggered me with a blow to the ribs. Right after that he tackled me to the ground and got on top of me. With his knees securely planted in my back he started to wail on me. When all my power was gone he rolled me over to my back and started to choke me. As the life was slowly draining out of me I thought of all my journeys and adventures. Then I thought about my brother and my family and knew I couldn’t give up. I was the last of the Royal Bloodline. With a gleam in my eye I saw a shard of the broken axe. I quickly picked it up it up and stabbed it into Archon’s jugular vein. The dirty, crazed orc fell to the ground with blood intermittently squirting out of his neck and I knew I had avenged my brother’s death. I spat on him and then took his head as proof of my kill.

When I returned to Orclantia they hung Archon’s head up in Town Square and threw a Royal Parade in honor of my victory and becoming a Wolf Rider. The whole town chanted, “Thrall, Thrall, Thrall!!!” At the end my father knighted me Wolf Rider and then I saw my Wolf. He was so beautiful. His muscles were hard, his eyes were cold blue, and his fur was as silver as my new steel axe. With my new ride I ruled all of Orclantia and my father and I became one of the strongest armies in the world.

His First Olympics

Steve Prefontaine went to the 1972 Olympics in Munich. Steve was ready to move on from being the best in America to the best in the world. Pre was doing some sharpening races to get him ready for the Olympics. He raced against the former world record holder for the two mile and beet him with ease. He also did many gut wrenching workouts like 3 by 1 mile repeats or 4 1200 repeats. His times for the 1200 were 3:12, 3:09, 3:06, and 3:00. For another sharpening work out his coach had him run a solo mile in under 4:00 he did it in 3:59 with no competition. Pre went to Munich with his eyes set on at least a bronze or a silver metal but hopefully a gold. Pre was doing awesome in the race he was in the top three in a race with veterans and he wasn't even in his prime. He went to the outside with about 300 to go and the guy in second place cut him off and he had to go back to third; he tried it again at about 200 to go but got cut off again but this time he lost all of his momentum and the man in fourth place stepped up and never looked back, Pre got fourth instead of his almost for sure third place finish. Here's a link to a sight that has a video of the last part of the race. Pre went back the the US and skipped his 1972 Cross Country and indoor track seasons so he could train harder for outdoor track in the spring. With this he was granted and extra year of eligibility for the 1973 cross country and indoor track seasons. Steve won every 5000 meter NCAA Championship in college and won three out of the for cross country championships which is the first time this had ever happened.

More Than What It Seems!!!!!

Right now I'm reading "The Second Summer of the Sisterhood" from the "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" series. A lot of people think that this book is so dumb because of the name, without even reading it, but it's really good if you take the time to read it. The pants aren't the biggest part of the book, it's really about the events in each of the girls' lives. So, I really

encourage you to not judge a book by the cover or the name, but by the contents of the book. You have to read a book before you actually judge. I just wanted to mention that because I've gotten comments from people who kind of laughed at the book. But it is truly a good book.

Anyways, in this book from the series the four girls experience love, hate, anger, happiness, and frustration, but they learn many things from their experiences. It's kind of been really depressing, but it gets so much happier throughout the book. Some of the girls experience happiness, only to fall again. But that's life sometimes. We all have our downfalls. I'm not done with the book, but it's really good from what I've read so far.

Here is a good quote from the book:

"There is no remedy for love but to love more." -Henry David Thoreau

Remember VT...

I know that Ms. James wants us to blog about topics relevant to "Romeo and Juliet," but I hope that she understands why I am blogging this instead. I am still in shock at the tragedy that happened at Virginia Tech on Monday. I always thought that Columbine would be the most chilling and deadly school shooting in history, but unfortunately I was mistaken. The fact that someone massacred thirty-two innocent students makes me sick to my stomach. I feel so bad for all of the students who had to go through this and most of all for the loved ones and family of the victims who have passed away due to this catastrophe. Everyone please show your support for Virginia Tech.

Bang

The first thing that I have to say is that the videos were a very good idea. The videos have really helped me understand better and definately the modern version with Leonardo Dicaprio. It is more modern and the theme is gangster set so that also makes it much more interesting. The more that I watch the videos, the easier the story comes to me. Also, because the story is about "love" it really helps to throw in some gang violence to keep the guys in the class awake while the girl croon over the mushy lovey dovey poop. Anybody feel the same?

Videos

I really enjoyed the Shakespeare videos that we watched in class. Sometimes when I read the play I have a hard time visualizing what is actually happening. Watching the movies helped me put a picture to the text. I think that the newer movie that we watched was very helpful as well. Most of us have a hard time relating to Romeo and Juliet because of how different we live our lives now compared to then. The modern movie put the plot into a better perspective for me. I think it is a lot easier now to relate to the text now that we have seen the videos.

Have No Fear, No Fear Shakespear Is Here!!

Does anyone else see that NoFearShakespear is really helping because of the conversion from old text to modern text? I really am starting to understand Shakespear when students in the class play roles in the play and I follow along and read the modern text while they are reading the old text outloud. I never really understood what Shakespear was saying or doing. And NoFearShakespear even helps out when it comes to words that meant something different then, than they do now. Thank God for sparknotes' NoFearShakespear!!

Act 1 Scene 3: Romeo and Juliet

Romeo and Juliet so far is very interesting. I can't wait to read more in class because right now we have read through Act 1 Scene 3. I really like the nurse of the Capulets. She is very taklitive and she is quite funny. I like how she fits in the jokes in the conversation with the upper class people. But, I can't help but wonder if Romeo will be noticed at the Capulet's party. I mean if all of the Capulet's hated the Montague's why would they not be able to tell that Romeo is of cvourse a Montague? Anyway, I look forward to reading the rest of the story to see what happens.

in the world of shakespear

I think that shakespear was one of the most brilliant men ever. He saw things and imagined things that no one else could. He made up so many words that are used commonly even today. I wonder what it would be like to live in that time period. Though the whole idea of an arranged marriage is not something i would agree with. Having someone choose my husband for life without me having any say does not sound like a good idea to me. Though i would like to live in a world of luxuary and money. However, after a while i think it would get old and i would end up wishing my old life back. Overall i think it would be cool to go back in time.........but just not stay forever!

Fact or Fiction

I have always wondered if Romeo and Juliet was a true story or if Shakespeare complete made it up in his imagination. I found the answer at this link. (It is at the bottom of the page.) Romeo and Juliet is a true story. There were such families by the names of Capulet and Montague, and there were two forbidden lovers from these families who died for each other. At the link above there are also a lot of other interesting facts about Shakespeare like facts about his others plays and information about the little bit of information that we do know about his life.

Romeo and Juliet thus far

So far Romeo and Juliet has been really good but a little confusing and slow moving!! I am really ready for Romeo and Juliet to meet and fall in love!! Love stories are my favorite thing to read!!! I only wish love in real life was as wonderful and easy as in the movies. So the Fear No Shakesperae sight has really helped me a lot to understand more what is going on. Also reading it together in class with Ms. James has also made things a lot easier. In scene two, I thought that was so interesting that Juliet's father says before Juliet will be able marry Paris she had to agree. That is so unlike this time period because usually girls have arranged marriages where they have no say in who they marry which is very unfair. I also thought that it was so creative on Shakespeare's part on how Romeo found out about the ball. He pretty much invited himself just because the woman he supposedly loved was going to be there. Lucky the servant didn't know how to read. Today, we finally got to meet Juliet and her nurse. The nurse was such a funny character but I feel that some of her jokes were uncalled for. It was so funny when Lady Capulet told her that, that was enough but yet she still kept on talking away. Juliet was pretty much how I expected her to be. So I read Scene four just a few minutes ago and I thought that was so weird how in Romeo's last line he said that he felt something bad was going to start up tonight that would end in his death, and that is exactly what happens. He meets Juliet, they fall in love, and they end up dying because of their families hatred towards one another. That is so weird that Shakespeare would put that in there. I also felt like during this whole scene that Romeo didn't want ot go to the ball anymore but instead his friends were making him. I can't wait to read on and see what happens next!!!

David and Goliath

I have been reading the story of David and Goliath in my Bible. I think it is so cool how God has plans for such a small boy that no one expected greatness from. Sure enough David was given courage from God to go and fight. He did not wear Saul's armor but insted he went to a stream and picked out five smooth stones from the creek. I think that these five stones represent the armor of God. The armor of God symbolizes preparation. David prepared himself with five stones. The first stone represents faith. This is a big one. You have to put all of your faith in God and trust him, knowing that he will help you fight your battles because they are His battles. David had faith in God and God made him victorious. You have to have the second stone of patience when you are facing obstacles. Notice that David did not just run and charge Goliath. He waited until the right moment. The third stone is scripture. This is the purpose of memorizing scripture. Scripture will keep you on track and focused on God. With God on the mind you can face challenges. The fourth stone is peace. Was David argry when he was fighting Goliath? No, he remained calm with God and he did what God wanted to do. He was glad to do the Lord's work. The fifth stone is prayer. This is the most important thing to do. Phillipians 4:6 says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything present your request to God in prayer." If you pray God is with you. Prayer is an amazing source of comfort. I personally need to work on talking to God more and remembering that no matter how big or small my request or topic I should talk it over with Him first.

Reading out loud

I don't know why, but reading Romeo and Juliet out loud is really helping me understand it. When i read it alone it seems monotone and flat, but when its read out loud I really get the meaning of the words and who is saying them. I thought today's scene really potrayed juliet's parents as almost opposites who obviously don't love each other.

Lady Capulet is set in her ways and traditions. While Lord Capulet seems very modern and he seems to really care about his daughter being happy.

On another not I have abandoned multiple books lately so i'm needing some suggestions on what to read any ideas???

The same, but different!

I enjoyed looking at the different photo stories because all of the stories were different. Even though we all used some of the same poems. It really showed our personalities and how we saw things. And even though we all read the same words, each and everyone of us were thinking of a different picture or scene. I don't know what all of you think but I think that if we all did not have our own personalities the world would be very boring and everyone would get on everyone else's nerves and no one would be very happy. What do you think?

Fingerprint Poems

I liked the photostory things. After looking at my groups poems it was really cool to see all the neat ways in which everyone interpreted the poems meanings. I think it really reflects on the individual because no one looked at the same poem in the same way. Each photostory was unique like a finger print. The uniqeness of each photostory really gave me a different way to look at each poem every time I read it!

A Walk to Remember

I'm reading a new book. It's another Nicholas Sparks book. He's probably my favorite author lately. Well I'm reading A Walk to Remamber and it's pretty good. I like it better then the movie. It seems a lot more real and a lot less cheesey. I can't wait to get farther into the book.

Romeo and Juliet is getting easier for me, I don't know about everyone else though. I can't wait to get farther into the book. So whats everyone else reading??

Gossip Girl All i want is everything!

Is the Gossip Girl book I am on now. It is the third book and it is just as good as the last two. This series is pretty much addicting. I love it. I'm pretty sure by tomorrow I will be on the 4th book! I'm excited! I absolutely love these books. I cant wait to continue reading this series.

Foto-Geschichte 3 Tätigkeit

I think the photo story activity we did was pretty fun today, mostly because the poem i read was about deadly tornadoes, wet conditions, and towns getting torn apart. Wait heres the good part, my song is an upbeat German (explains the title) fast and happy song! They mix like peanut butter and mustard if you ask me which makes for a delicious sandwich if you like to puke. I can't wait to present it tomorrow in class. I may just have to do a little jig to the music.

Photostory:)

The photostory activity that we did today was actually pretty cool. I really liked how we were able to add visuals to the poems because usually we just have to read the poem and imagine what the scene is like. It was a different way of expressing the poem through pictures, instead of words. Adding music also set the mood for the poem. You could choose certain lighting or color for the picture, which kind of seemed like it showed the emotion or feeling of the poem. What did everyone else think about photostory?

Photo Stories

I wasn't here friday, but I did mine today. I thought it was a lot of fun. I love because it gives the reader a picture of the poem. I love that because it causes a bigger impact on the reader i believe. Think of how much more interesting it would be if every poem you read was a poem story?? I think it would make me want to read more poems. Sounds, also, add alot. Sounds add just a little more jazz. Well thats it for now. =]
P.S. I used my picture in my photo storie! ;]

photo story 3

photo story 3 was really fun to work with and to make a little story out of a poem. I hope everyone has gotten their photo story done in class today. I hope everyone had a great weekend too. Mine was boring, i was grounded but my birthday was saturday! Yea well anyways, I got my photo story done and its very cool. Ill try and get it on here but i doubt i can.

Romeo and Juliet

is really interesting. I wish I could read it easier though. I really enjpyed the photostory assignment. I think choosing the music was my favorite part because it was like the third demension of the poetry, which would be sound. We should do it again. Thanks Carson and Mrs Hallmark.

Confused?

A lot of people including myself get very confused when reading Romeo and Juliet. Well I went to this link and I found a way to understand it better. It includes everything from character descriptions, to summaries, and to vocab. words. I read the Introduction part and Act 1, Scene 1 and I will admit that I understand it a lot more than before. I recommend reading the actual play before reading their summaries so you can relate to the text and maybe understand it in Shakespeare's words.

1984

1984 keeps getting better and better. I explained it in one of my earlier posts. I am at the part where he finds a girl and they fall in love, kind of corney but still alright. I can't wait for the fights to start.

The Reliance

I am now reading the book that comes after the Redemption. It is called the Reliance. ML Tyndall wrote this book too. In the Reliance Charlisse and Merrick are separated by a tragic tale of events. Merrick has to become a pirate once again to rescue her. I have just started the second book and I can't put it down. I wonder if Merrick can stay close to God even though he thinks the love of his life is dead. Can Charlisse some how manage to escape her captors? I am so excited to finish these books. I can't wait to see what happens! You can visit my link on the past blog called the Redemption for more information on the author and her new books.

GG

I have just started reading the first Gossip Girl book. The book is good so far; I'm only about half way through it. The book is about a blog online called Gossip Girls. The blog is about a group of friends, but the real names are not used in the blog. Everyone is reading the blog and even parents are reading it. People are trying to guess who each person is. In the story part; an old friend of everyone's came back and is feeling left out. I am excited to finish the book.

Shakespeare

So I just got done reading the first scene of Romeo and Juliet, and its not that bad. I just wish I could understand it a little better. Today were finishing our photo stories and I think mine is probably the best.

South Carolina

This is my extra post it really has nothing to do with anything.Well my sister has come to town from
South Carolina. It has been really great having her here. She leaves next Friday so that will be sad.She is so lucky though because they are having horrible weather in the Carolinas and she just missed it.Her birthday was last week so we celebrated her birthday and went shopping to go get her something. But anyways this weekend has been really good and I had alot of fun.I'm just not rally ready for another busy week.

Oh yeah the picture is of one of the many houses in the historic district in down town Charleston,SC.Charleston is so pretty the houses date back to the revolutionary war! What is also great is the houses are located on the harbor that goes out to the ocean, and there is a beautiful bridge.I would suggest going to Charleston not only for the beaches and wonderful scenery, but for the history as well. You can also go to the famous Ft.Sumter which is the location of the first battle of the civil war and is on a piece of land in the ocean off of Charleston.

For art thou to cometh next, Romeo?!?

Well, I have read the homework assignment yet, but I'm highly anticipating to do so. The prologue gave so much information, but it let me wanting more! Sure, we all know that Romeo and Juliet are going to die, that is what it's famous for. But I can't wait to read about all the events that lead to the tragic, sorrowful deaths. What do you think will happen? I guess the only thing left for all of us to do is....READ! Until death do us part.....

LMS

Wasn't at school :(

Well i wasn't at school on Friday or Monday..but i was reading on your posts about the poems. I thought it sounded pretty fun actually. That it really helped you guys understand the meaning of poems, i hope that i get a chance to do it too when i return. Well ill see everyone on Tuesday and see what you people have been up to! :D

Photostories

Photostories were so fun! It will take me some time to figure it out, but it was exciting to search for the perfect photograph that was similar to the picture my mind had painted for me. I think this will defintely come in handy for Shakespeare, because everyone can physically visualize what they see in their mind. I can't wait to see everyone's thoughts and creativity come to life!

Until then!

LMS

WHERE'S ROMEO!?!?

I found it funny that Juliet was trying to cover up her love for Romeo when she was asking where he was. Obviously, the readers understand what she is doing, but I dont think that the others got the hint. How could we compare something like this to modern times. Would this be like an intelligent, wealthy, woman falling in love with a highschool dropout couch patatoe that lives with his mom? How would your parents feel if that happened to you? I guess we all have a lot to interpret with Shakespear because he is a very confusing writer.

Coming Alive

I loved photo story and I think alot of other people enjoyed it as well.I think it will be an awesome resource for other classes.I think you could use that for projects ,and plus it is alot of fun.I think my church uses it because we have a screen thing ,and they are always showing inspirational power points that have music. So I think it is photo story.Photo story made the poems come alive and made them very inspirational. It brought out the point that it is trying to made come out so much better! I also love the hand story. It was very cute, and it had very good imagery. The story I choose to do was the exact opposite. The story I choose was kind of depressing yet exciting at the same time.It was about a person driving in tornado weather. In my opinion that would be very frightening!

tell a story with pictures

The idea of telling a story with pictures is a creative idea to show imagery. I believe it allows people to understand and get a better idea of what is going on in the writing. I also thought it was a fun and different way of showing imagery. Instead of just seeing it in your head this gives you the chance of capturing your thoughts on paper. Did you guys like it? At first i thought it was kind of hard to figure out but then once i got the hang of it, it became entertaining. I hope i will have enough time in class to fnish it.

Friday and the Weekend

I can't believe the weekend is already over!! It went by way to fast!!! So it is our last day to blog and I almost totally forgot!! Friday was so much fun!! I really enjoyed working with Ms. Hallmark with Photo Story!! I can't wait to finish mine tomorrow!! It really halped me to understand the poem more by writing down what I visualized and then finding pictures to go along with it!!! I chose the poem about swimming and I found a lot of good pictures!! So it was so weird last night I had this dream that we puton Romeo and Juliet the play at our school and I was Juliet. It was a very different version though!!! It had like cats and stuff in it. I don't realy remember much else!! Today I went and saw the opera H.M.S. Pinafore that was put on by the choir and I was really impressed. All the singing was amazing and the leads did an excellent job. The story line was also very excting. It was about a ship called H.M.S Pinafore and the captain had arranged for his daughter to be married to teh rich Sir Joseph, but she was in love with a poor sailor named Ralph. They knew they would probably never marry because of thier differences in ranks but they still continued their love for one another. Well meanwhile, the Captain and Sir Joseph feel that Josephine feels like Sir is to good for her so they give her this big long speech about how love levels all ranks. She thinks this means that it is ok that she can marry Ralph so she is very excited and they think she finnally got the message and is going to marry Sir Joeseph. She runs to find Ralph and when Sir Joseph finds them together he arrests Ralph and throws him in the dungeon. That is when the truth unfolds. Lady Buttercup another passenger on the ship admits to have switching Captain and Ralph when she used to babysit them as younger boys. SO therefore Ralph is really the captain and the Captain is really a poor sailor Ralph. Sir Joseph no longer wants to marry Josephine beacause she is such a low rank so then her and really the captain or Ralph can get married. It was so good!! Well I am looking forward to reading more in Romeo and Juliet as the week goes on!! See everyone tomorrow!!

Jackie Robinson

Exactly 60 years ago today Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in baseball to become the first African American player in the major leagues. He won the first ever Rookie of the Year Award in baseball in 1947 and won the National League MVP Award in 1949. He won the National League MVP award 8 times, 7 years in a row from 1947-53, he was also an All -Star 6 times. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962 and was the only player in baseball to ever have his number retired from all teams. So I guess he was a pretty great player and forever will be remebered.

Photo Story

I liked doing the Photo Story lesson on Friday. I Thought that it was cool that you can do that, I didn't know that you could. I wrote my story from the Tornado poem, I had fun looking for the pictures and putting them together into my story. I not do yet, but am ready to work on it again, and I hope that we can do this again some other time.

Poems

I really enjoyed the Photo Story lesson on Friday. I never even knew that it existed. I thought it was a lot of fun finding pictures to match the poems. It reminded me of illustrators of children's books. They are only given the words to a story and they have to make up pictures in their mind of how they interpret the words. I am looking forward to finishing my story on Monday!

Shakespeare

When we first started reading Shakespeare I really didn't understand it. This stuff really isn't my thing. It is hard sometimes when I am trying to comprehend and I don't get it.
it is also funny to think about how they talk. Nobody talkes like that today. It is A little bit like the Odyssey. The Odyssey was kind of hard to understand too. I guess I will get the hang of it eventually.

Dead Poets Society

I just watched this movie over the weekend and even though it was made in 1989 it was pretty good. The whole movie is about an all boys school called Weldon or as they call it He double hockey sticks don. So it is a very strict and conservative school. Then this young teacher comes along and does some pretty new stuff at there time. So the old teachers clashes with the new teacher's ways and the kids side with the new teacher. It is good movie and you should see it.

Photo Book Story

I am pretty proud of my story I made in my last session of English IH. The words flowed from my soul to my hand, to my finger tips and out the pencil. I mean what I made was really story of photo story, hence the name photo story. I think it was a good way to express my creative photo story telling side.

Disturbia

Yesterday I went and saw the movie "Disturbia." That was a pretty awesome movie so if you want to go see it I highly recomend it. But in our class I know we have talked about if chivelary was dead. In the movie the guys neighbor (the girl he likes) are spying on his neighbor. And whenever they see him open the car door for the girl he was with she says "Well, I guess chivelary is not dead." and that was when I thought about this class. Anyways it was kind of ironic because the neighbor is crazy so yeah that was kind of funy to me. But yeah I thought I would mention that. This was a great/suspensful movie if any of you were wanting to see it.

And the twinkie....well you just have to see the movie. Haha.

What is Love?

This past week, we started "Romeo and Juliet," and I have to say that I was so confused. Shakespeare's use of words were so confusing, but I believe that they were very meaningful and thoughtful. He described Romeo's love as depressing and sad. Right now, like what Ms. James had said, it seems like Romeo doesn't have the deep and meaningful love that he thinks he has. I don't think he's learned what true love is. I can't wait to read about the love that grows between Romeo and Juliet and the passion that goes with it.

Mysterious Love

At this point I wonder if Romeo has discovered his love for Juliet? So far in this story I am having a little bit of a hard time trying to understand the language of Shakespear, but I also like this story. I also wonder what are the Montague's and the Capulet's fighting about? I don't recall it stating that in the story but it might have. I just don't remember if it did. So far I do like this story and I hope I will like it throughout the rest of the unit. I am excited about reading more this week. I hope we get time to blog though this week because I did not have anytime last week or the week before.

I also like that PhotoStory thing we are doing in class. That is kind of neat since I have never really done that before.

The Redemption

I have been reading a really good book about pirates and Christianity. There is a really HOT pirate named Captain Merrik. He used to be a horrible pirate but then he was captured and he became a Christian. He agreed to be under the employ of the Jamacian Government and only prey on Spanish vessles and other pirates. Mean while a noble girl named Charlisse is running away from her sick, abusive uncle. She ends up stranded on an island and Captain Merrik finds her. Charlisse hates Captain Merrik at first because she thinks that all men are evil after the wicked things that her uncle did to her. Captain Merrik finds it hard to resist Charlisse's beauty. The two fall in love. This is a really good book by ML Tyndall. My brother got me these books because he knows that I have an obsession for pirates, romance stories and books. If you share these same obsessions then these series are a must read. Oh did I mention there is a second book called The Reliance? I have finished the first book and I am going to start the second one any minute! Link!

How about this weather?

So did everyone see the snow yesterday. This weather lately has been so weird! I hope everybody has had a good weekend. I am waiting for this weather to move on so I can go play golf. Did everybody like doing photostory 3 Friday? I did. I thought that was so neat how we could really express what the poem means with pictures. This project really intrigued me. Well, I hope everyone had a good weekend. See ya Monday!

Freshman

In Steve's first year at Oregon he was an animal. He finished second at the cross country championships loosing in a close six mile race with the Washington State's Gerry Lindengren who pulled ahead of him at the last part of the race. Steve had a new a few new experiences in his Freshman year in running. His cross country races went from a 5k to a 10k, he didn't win them all and he got to run indoor track. Indoor track is much different than out door track. Indoor had a 160 yard oval and it was in the winter. Steve had his fair share of indoor wins but he was much better at outdoor track. Steve in only his freshman year won every race except one race. Steve went on to run at the NCAA Championships to win the three mile with a blistering time of 13:22. His pace was 4 minutes and 30 seconds per mile. That is amazing!t
Steve winning the 3 mile a the NCAA championships.

I'm on a roll.

I have always been able to just put a book down intill I started reading the Gossip Girl series. I just finished the second book. I read that book in one day. I just couldn't put it down. Which is really sad because that isn't like me. I know I have said this before, but I really recommend this series to all the girls in our class. Even some of the guys. You can relate a lot of events in this book to your own life, but then there are just some outrageous events that you couldn't imagine happening to you. I absolutely love these books, and I'm going to get the next one in the series tomorrow at school. I already went to the public library, and it was checked out. So, I am eager to get it tomorrow! I love how it leaves you wondering and wanting to know what happens next. It does it every book. I can't wait to start the next one. I was looking at a website about Gossip Girl, and after this series there is a continued series called the "It Girl". It takes one of the younger characters, and advances her from the very last book of Gossip Girl farther. I can't wait to read that series also.

A Story of Words, Music, and Pictures...

On Friday, Ms. Hallmark worked with us on Photo Story 3, thanks to her for helping us and to Carson for installing it. I thought that it was really cool because you could explain something using words, pictures, and music. For example, if you wanted to have a tribute to 9/11, you could have sad music and put little quotes on slides with the pictures from the tragedy. This could make things a lot easier when it comes to other classes too. Did anyone else think it would be fun if we all put our minds together and made a photostory of Shakespear and on the first slide we would put the quotes from the play, and then on the next slide we could have a modern day translation so that we could understand it more. That sounds like fun!!

America's Greatest Runnig Legend

Steve Prefontaine was without a doubt the best long distance runner America has ever had. In high school he began running cross country as a freshman. He went from 7th man on the varsity team to 2nd man. His sophomore was quite different, he was the number one man on the team and finished sixth at state. In his junior year he went undefeated, he won state with ease and he also won the state track two mile and had a state record of 9:01.3. Pre's Senior year was phenomenal eh was undefeated in every single cross country race and won state for the second time in his high school career. In track he was equally amazing and won every race until he got to international competition in the summer.

He made team USA in the summer after his senior year. The AAU championship was the first race he had lost in over a year and a half. He went on the European tour and finished between fifth and second which is absolutely amazing
(Pre is just winning another high school race with no one in site.) since distance runners don't hit their prime until their mid to late twenties. Pre ended up going to the University of Oregon which is one the greatest long distance running schools of all time.

connfusing....

I have been a hard read so far. I think that i am going to end up liking Romeo and Juliet but its difficult to understand i think. I believe that it was easier in class though. Just because we are reading it outloud and i tend to understand reading outloud rather than to myself. I also think having the teacher there helps because she has read it so much and understands it so well. Also, she has probably heard all the questions we might ask. I also just think that it is more fun in the classroom with all the different voices of characters.Well i hope everyone has an awesome weekend! stay safe!!!!

Just Finished

The first book of the series Gossip Girls. It was the best book I have ever read. I enjoyed it so much. I literally couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this book to everyone. I'm getting ready to go to the library to get the next two in the series. I'll let you know what they are like. I have no doubt that they will be just as good. At the end of this book...they leave you wondering what happens, so now I definitely have to go get the next book. I'll let you know what happens!

how long can you run?

I really liked doing the photo stories. It makes poetry a lot more interesting when there are pictures and music. I picked the tornado one because i really felt like i could relate with it. when i get mad or upset i love to just get away form anything and as fast as i can. I feel like if I go fast enough none of my problems will ever be able to catch me. Like the girl in the picture with the fire.

But eventually i have to stop and then all the problems catch up. I love how in the poem she related completely with me like that and I'm sure with other people in different ways. How did you react to that poem, and what do you all do when your mad?? I'm really curious

Verona

I really like Romeo and Juliet!! I only have one problem........I don't quite understand it...any of it.I barley understand what is going beside the main thing that the families are fighting.I have a question. Why are they fighting in the first place?I don't remember why?I don't think it told me in the story ,and if it did I probably didn't know what t was saying at the time.I can't wait until I get the hang of the whole old English thing. In Scene one toward the end.Am I correct in saying that Romeo doesn't want another girl, and the other guy Bolivio whatever his name is wants him to find other girls to go out with.Any ways I'm really really hoping I get the hang of this.Wish me luck.

I'm not gonna lie

I'm not gonna lie kids I really like Romeo and Juliet. I can't understand it but once I get it I love it. The poetry is so pretty, and who doesn't love a love story. I can't wait to get to the actually romantic pretty part.

I also really like the prologue i think it's great to know things in the beginning, it gives the story a whole new depth. I like it. Well i got to go now. write later

From Maycomb to Medieval

After starting to read William Shakespeare's "The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet," I can already tell that I will not enjoy the book. I am not trying to contradict anyone and I am not trying to say that Shakespeare's works are not good, this play is just not my type so to say. I also find it interesting that we are going from such a radical change in literature. It is difficult to go straight from reading the Southern dialect used in "To Kill A Mockingbird" and then switch right to the proper old English used in "Romeo and Juliet." I only hope that I am wrong that the play will only get better as it goes on.

This sounds so pretty!

As I was reading the rest of act one I began to
realize how pretty it sounded and how
good Shakespeare really was with words.
And how romantic the play really is.
My favorite passage was when Romeo
was describing love.

165
Here's much to do with hate but more with love.

Why then, O brawling love, O loving hate,

O anything of nothing first created!

O heavy lightness, serious vanity,

Misshapen chaos of well-seeming forms!
170
Feather of lead, bright smoke, cold fire, sick health,

Still-waking sleep, that is not what it is!

This love feel I, that feel no love in this.
At first this does not make very much sense,
but when I looked it up on sparknotes it sounded
so pretty.
This fight has a lot to do with hatred,
but it has more to do with love. O brawling love!
O loving hate! Love that comes from nothing!
Sad happiness! Serious foolishness!
Beautiful things muddled together into an ugly mess!
Love is heavy and light, bright and dark,
hot and cold, sick and healthy, asleep and awake
—it's everything except what it is! This is the love
I feel, though no one loves me back.
I love how he tries to describe love and
then he says that it is every thing,
but love.
I am very greatful that Mrs. James showed
us the sparknotes wedsite and would
incurrage you, if you have not already, to
take a look at them because they really
helped my understand better.

Capulet vs.Montague...

After the reading the beginning of Shakespeare's "The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet," I can already sense the tension between the two families : the Capulets and the Montagues. I think it was very smart of Bill to start off the play the way that he did to immediately show the audience how hateful the two families are towards each other by having the fight between Sampson and Gregory of the Capulets against Abram of the Montagues. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet

So from what I read on the blog a lot of people have been confused about the reading. It's good to know I am not the only one. Shakespeare's language is so hard to understand and what you think it would mean it doesn't mean that at all. When Ms. James explained last night's reading in class today it helped me look at it a whole different way. For example I thought that when Sampson was bragging about how tough he was and acting all macho that he was a pretty brave guy but then when the fight happens he becomes a big coward and let's Gregory jump in instead of him. Tonight's reading wasn't as hard for me. There were still some parts I had no clue what they were talking about but the majority of the time I could figure it out. So we learn that Romeo is in love but for some reason is very sad about this love. So I was a little confused is this Juliet he is talking about or does she come later??? I thought it was pretty funny when Benvolio was trying to help him foget about her and keep her mind of her but he just seemed to make it worse. Even though Shakespeare is really confusing I think that in a way it is so beautiful. The rhythm and flow of his writing is just wonderful especially in the lines Romeo has had so far. It is just so hard to believe that one man could have thought all this up and wrote all this amazing literature. If a guy wrote love poems like that to me I would fall for him in a second. I am really looking forward to keep reading and meet Juliet, and I feel that by the end of this play we will all be pros at figuring out Shakespearean language if we are not already.

Romeo and Juliet

So did anyone else have problems reading the scene 1 for the first time? I know I had trouble. I read it all and then I said "huh, what did I just read." After we read it in class today I feel like I understand it better than I did. I am very interested in reading Shakespeare though because I have actually visited his home town and his house that his wife and children lived in. It was so interesting and I learned many things about him and his literature. So now I am anxious to continue to read, understand, and learn about his writings such as Romeo and Juliet. Well, I hope everyone continues to have a good week and weekend!

The Rivals

When I was reading the first part of act one
I was very surprised by how much the two
families hated each other. For example, when
Sampson clams that he will cut off the heads of
the Montague's maids. That is an example of
how serious the situation was. I was surprised
that any one would go that far no matter the
problem or the rivalry. I enjoyed the first part of
the play and cannot wait to read on.

Shakespeare

I have read the first scene thing in Romeo and Juliet twice now. The first time I read it, it was a little foggy but the second time I went over it I finally started to understand it alot better. I hate the feeling of doubt that I get when I read something challenging. I tend to second guess myself and I don't think that my analysis of the story is correct. Does anyone else ever do this? I also think that there are a few different ways that parts of this play can be interpreted. I was kind of afraid to start on the questions in the book for fear that I would not understand something right or that I would interpret something totally wrong. I think that this book will be very challenging but I will enjoy it alot. The first time I read scene one I thought that Sampson and Gregory (if those were their names) were being very brutal, challenging and brave. Then I realized that they were being cowardly. Is this right? I thought that they were saying that they would attack the women because they were easier targets and they were easily defeated.

Romeo and Juliet

So I am so excitied to read Romeo and Juliet I hope I understand it ok.

I agree with some other people watching the movie will really help all of us to understand it better. so has any body read far? Do you get it or not?

The day we watched the movie with the sub I had already seen it we watched it in drama. It was ok but it wasnt as good as the actual movie.

Happy Reading!

Romeo Romeo

I hope that we get to watch the movie of Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo Decapreo! Maybe watching the movie or even just the play will help everyone to really understand what Shakepear was saying. The movie could visualy show us what is happening so we could put their words with what was going on. I heard that the movie is supposed to be good and I think it would be beneficial to watch. Have any of you guys scene the movie? I also took a Shakespear class when I was in elementary school and i studied the plays. Our class even put on the play of A Midsummer Nights Dream.I got to be one of the fairies. Doing the play and analyzing what they were saying was a way for me to understand it more. Do you guys think it is a good idea to watch the move or watch the play?Beacuase I do and I would like to know how you guys feal.

Got Dictionaries?!?

Ms. James told us to read up to the prologue in Romeo & Juliet. I truthfully had no idea what in the world those 15 lines were saying. But when we wtached the video yesterday, Gwenyth Paltrow clearly summarized what the story's beginning was summarizing, if that make any sense. 2 lovers live in a world of hatred and confusion, but yet both find eachother head over heels in love. Their forbidden love and tradgic deaths help their families stop their nonsense. Wow, at first, that's not what I thought it was trying to say at all, but now that I know what it says, it all seems perfect.

I also think that it would be a good idea to give us 'partner time' after every assingment in order for the partners to explain what they thought what happened, and how it happened. My table buddy and I did this, and she understood things I did not, and I with her. So I think that would be a superb idea MsJames (hint hint nudge nudge). Well, I will be seeing you all tomorrow! Until then!

The weather....

So the weather? Its spring or supposed to be spring it is freezing out side when it is supposed to be some what warm. I am freezing in school because the AC is on. Is any one else cold?

I am still reading Gossip Girls. Who else is reading Gossip Girls? Tell me about them I am not very far. here is a link about them!

Scout and Shakespere

Both Scout and Shakespere speak their own language! They both caused or are going to cause our class to try and desifer their words. If you think about it Scout is a many Shakespere because she was ahead of her time just like Shakespere was ahead of his. I think that if someone recorded what Scout said they would find that she to made up some of her own words. In my opinion Scout would get along great with Shakespere. What do you guys think? Do you think Scout could give him a run for his money?

Romeo & Juliet

Wow! This will be an exciting class period, reading romeo and juliet. I have never read this but but i have seen the movie. I hope i enjoy it as much as i enjoyed watching the movie. I hope everyone else enjoys it too. Its really depressing going from an adventurous book as "to kill a mockingbird" to go to a romantic play like "romeo and juliet" Its going to be a big change for me and to everyone else. Well cya all tomorrow!

What Did You Just Say To Me Romeo?!?

I have been skimming through every one's posts, and the majority of you all speak of your fears of the context in 'Romeo & Juliet.' I know it is not encouraged to use Sparknotes , but I think that it could help give everyone a summary in clear English. I'm sure that after you read parts of the play, Sparknotes can help you understand the play better, and help your mind paint a clearer picture for you.

I also think that if you really take time to reread the play, it can help you too! During the summer I watched 'Pride and Predjudice' starring Kiera Knightly, and at first, it was the most confusing movie I had ever seen. They speak perfect english, including words that made no sense at all. I was 'mind-boggled' after watching it, but I have seen that movie about 5 times since then, and I could most certainly translate the movie and its meaning for you now. So, don't give up, and keep trying. You can do it! =)

WW2 Book.....kinda

Tomorrow I'm going to start reading the sequel to one of my favorite books that I've ever read, "Stones in Water". Hopefully the library will have it in by then. I have high expectations for it because the first one was exciting, yet tragic in the end. Either way it should be fun to finally find out what actually happened to Romeo and his family! Ahhh, speaking of Romeo, i hope i can understand most of the weird grammar used in Shakespeare's play.

The Play

A lot of people are worried about the old english of the play but I am not. It will be fine. I will easily be able to read ou tof context. Also I understood those insults fairly well. So I'm not scared of the reading to come(Even though that package of papers was huge). So bring it on!

The Greatest Game Ever

Team USA won the final game against Finland which wasn't much of a surprise to the US because they had never lost to Finland and they didn't plan on starting then. The most nerve racking thing about it all is that they US was not guaranteed a metal at all because this was a tournament based on points not how goes to the championship. If the US lost by two and the Soviets tied there game they would not have gotten a single metal because they would have had the worst goal differential. But Instead of loosing by two the US won by two with a game of 4-2. The United States had finished the miracle and won the gold. The US had to come from behind for another time but they obviously pulled it off very well.

For some of the team this was going to be the last competitive game they would ever play and for others it would just be the start of their NHL career. Not all the players that went to the NHL after the Olympics was great at that level and not all of them would even stay in the NHL for more than a few years but at least they could say that they lived all their dreams to the fullest.
The 1980 US Olypic team lights the flame for the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Games.

All the Rave

This book is absolutely amazing!! I just got done reading it a couple of days ago!! If you love a mystery this would be a great free reading book for you to read during boring old MAP testing!! It is written by Tim Lahaye, who co wrote the Left Behind series, and Bob Demoss. It is part of whole series called the Soul Survivior all about a group of teenage Christian friends. This paticular book is about an East Coast Rave taking place on Memorial Day weekend. A big group of friends had planned to go to the party and dance the night away. Things didn't turn out as planned when Jodi Adams and Bruce Arnold found their friend Kat Koffman unconcious on the second floor of a rat infested warehouse with a dead boy and an empty syringe lying next to her. Jodi wanted answers. How did the boy die? Was Kat next? Why did the syringe look familiar to Bruce? And why did the police refuse to help? Nothing could prepare Jodi for what would happen next. And just when she thought she had solved the crime, she found way more than she had bargained for - The Russian Mafia. You'll have to read the book to find out what else happens. I garuntee you once you pick it up you will never want to put it back down. It is so addicting and suspenseful. You never know what is going to happen next. I can't wait to read more books in the series. I will make sure and let you all know if the rest of the books in the series are as good as this one. Well I hope everyone is having a Happy Easter!! See ya tomorrow!!!

Friday Night Lights

Fiday Night Lights was my free reading book and I'm sure that many of you have either read the book or seen the movie. Friday Night Lights is a story about the Permian Panther's football team out of Permian High School in Odessa, Texas. In Odessa and all through Texas, high school football is everything. This story goes through their season and on into the playoffs, it tells about their struggles after losing their star player and how ever though they were with out the best player the got back into championship contention. It also shows how they made it into the playoffs and their run through playoff where they came just short by inches in the state championship game. It;s a great book to read!

Travel Team :]

I started a book and i had no clue if i would like it. It attracted my attention because of the name Travel Team, i play on a basketball team in Kansas so i thought i might be able to relate in some way. Its about a boy named Danny who tried out for the 7th grade traveling basketball team. He is a very talented and determined boy, but theres one problem, he is short. You need to read it to find out what happens next. I highly recommend it, and if you are into any type of sport and really dedicate yourself its easy for you to enjoy it. I hope you have a great weekend! See everyone tomorrow!!!

William Shakespeare

We are getting ready to start reading Romeo and Juliet and I started to wonder who William Shakespeare really is, all I know about him is that he wrote Romeo and Juliet. William Shakespeare was and english poet and playright who is known as the greatest writer of the english language. He wrote 38 plays, 154 sonnets, plus a large variety of different poems.

"Star-Crossed Lovers"

So we're getting ready to read "Romeo and Juliet," and I'm actually kind of anxious to read it. I'm interested to see what happens to these "star-crossed" lovers and what leads to their tragic death. I haven't read much about "Romeo and Juliet," but I do know that the reading is going to seem difficult because of the way it's written. William Shakespeare seems like a really smart playwright with a wide imagination, but I wish there was more information on him, just to get an understanding of his personality. The reading that we had for the weekend was really cool, too. I hope everyone likes this story!

Easter Eggs anyone?

Is Easter all about the eggs?No it is about Jesus dieing for us so we in turn can go to heaven and have eternal life.Easter is the resurrection of Jesus. If you go all the way back to the beginning on the book of John it says(John chapter 1 verse4)In him was life, and that life was the light of men.Now this light never was and never can be extinguished. They put him on the cross and died, but then rose again. The light never died.No matter how depressed you are and no matter how far you stray if you believe in the resurrected
