This weekend we were supposed to read chapters 5-7 and I did! I found it to be very interesting because on the last night of the summer the three children decided to explore the Radley place to try to get "Boo" to come out. My heart was pounding so fast when they were trying to escape from the Radley's place but thankfully they made it out but without Jem's breeches. I also thought the excuse (that they played strip poker) that Dill made up to the adults for the reason why Jem didn't have his pants was very strange but what was even stranger was that they believed him! I thought at first that it was silly of Jem to go back and get his pants but after he got them safely I figured that it was not as risky as I thought. Later on when I found out that his pants had been sewn and folded I thought that was kind of strange and I think that "Boo" sowed them up but that is just my opinion. I was sad for Scout and Jem when their little knot hole in the tree got filled in with cement by Mr. Nathan because now they didn't have a chance to get any more chewing gum or any cool stuff and Scout especially liked the chewing gum and now she wouldn't have anymore! I think that "Boo" was also the one filling the hole with trinkets but Mr. Nathan didn't want him to do that anymore. So I think that he lied to Jem and that the tree was not really dying! I am really excited to find out what happens next and I hope everyone else is just as intrigued as me, with this book. -Boot

I thought that it was a very clever idea to say that they were playing strip poker. That made it sound like they were doing something that they were not supposed to but not so bad that they were going to get in trouble. I do agree with you though it was kind of strange but they had to come up with some explanation for having no pants. If you really think about it not having any pants for no reason is just as wierd as playing strip poker.
