This picture makes me feel very sad. There are three people in this picture. There is a young boy, about seven, who is barefoot siting next to a little girl, who is about three. They are sitting in the dirt leaning against a wooden panelled wall. There is also another girl who is standing in a doorway, but you can only see her legs and the edge of her dress. She is also barefoot. It is a bright warm afternoon and I wonder if these kids have anything else that they like to do other than sit in the dirt. The boy in the picture is wearing a pair of grubby over alls that look like they had been chewed on by a dog. His face is slightly smeared with dirt and he is not smiling. His eyes convey a deep sadness. The little girl sitting next to him has short blonde hair and she is wearing a dirty white little dress and she is looking at something in the dirt with interest. She is barefoot and she has a nice cover of dirt on her feet. There is and older girl in the picture and she might be about fourteen. She is also barefoot and she is wearing a ragged dress. I might ask her if it is her responsibility to watch over the kids in the picture. I might also ask them where their parents were and what they do for a living.

I think kids like that loved to get their picture taken.I don't think they are just sitting their I bet they are posing and i bet it would have been a real treat to get their pictur taken! No one could have afforded a camera or even seen one in those rural areas. It is funny to think that I would be like a mother back then and I would almost be married.Maybe that girl in the background is the mom. They married so young back then.
