So Many Attemps

There were so many attempts at the four minute mile that I almost started to think that these guys were not going to do it even though that is what the book is about. Roger Banister, John Landy, and Wes Santee are all trying to break the four minute mile barrier. They all were consistently all right around the record like 4:03 or 4:02 but they could never get those last two or three seconds because they hardly ever had some one to push them because they were the only ones in their countries that were even close to this great barrier. This barrier was so great that it was considered to be the Everest of athletics since no one had climbed Everest yet either. Bannister finally got a coach and that really helped him a lot when he got ten 440's in arrow in under 60 seconds and averaging 58.6. Then he knew that he was going to be the first person to break for minutes in the mile. He had done two three quarter mile timed trials to do all of his fine tuning and he was going to make his next attempt on May 6th 1954.

I am happy if i can run a 8 minute mile! People who can run the mile in under 5 minutes are insanely fast, and well-trained.
