In our pledge of allegiance, we say these very powerful words: "One country under god, and for liberty and justice for all..." When I read the outcome of the trial, I found that it contradicted the pledge. Tom was unrightfully charged, and has to pay the toll, all because some white-trash hick has no respect for himself or for the black community. It saddens me to know that our country, at one time, was one-sided and was unwilling to encourage equality. I am glad that future generations to come had enough sense and confidence to change their ancestors' harsh ways. Our country can sometimes be ignorant, but we always make up for it in the long run!

This was a very powerful post. I can totally agree with you. The law was kind of an oxymoron back then. The pledge said on nation under God with liberty and justice for ALL but then in another court ruling it said that seperate but equal is OK? Separate is not equal.

This is so true and I've never thought about it that way. All those years that they said it I guess they didn't know what it actually ment. Maybe people don't either in today's world. Hmm.... something to think about.
Oh I agree with you! It definitely was a contradiciton of the Pledge of Alligence! I guess back then, "liberty and justice for ALL" did not apply to blacks! I find that so unfair but at least now our country is more fair!
