Emmett Trial

I was goint through the links off of Freshman Scholars. The one I found the most interesting was the one on the Emmett Trial. I was searching around on the site, and found the actuall news-paper article, that the two men sold to the journalist. Here is the link. It really relates to the trial in To kill a mockingbird. It is obvious to that town that they were guilty, just like it was obvious in Maycomb that Mr. Edwell was guilty, and not Tom. I think that it was just plain cruel that a 14 year old boy was beaten and killed just because he wistled at a white girl. I think everything is just so unfair back then. I bet there are plenty of more trials like this. I remember from history last semester that there were multiple racial trials. I wonder at what point everything changed? Did whites just start to realize that there just the same as themeselves? How much guilt could people hold back then? How bad would the duries feel? I don't know. I just don't understand.

The story of Emmett Till is very sad. It saddens me that an innocent fourteen year old boy was murdered brutally because he whistled at a white girl. It disgusts me the most that the murderers confessed to the murder after their trial and thought it was nothing wrong that they had done. It just goes to show how evil and sick some people are in this world

This trail is very sad,and maybe worst then tom's because it was a kid and he didn't know what he did and got killed for something that at the time was bad to do.

It really makes me mad that the white men got away with the murder and then they laughed about it and got rich off of and interview.
