The Trial

The trial was the most exciting part of the book to me. The book had good suspense by letting you a little about what was going to happen next but it didn’t let you know the full story until you read on. The only thing that kept me reading today was because I wanted to find out what would happen next. This wasn’t one of those scenes that are so predictable that you could figure out what was going to happen; you had to read to find out and that is what I found so addicting to this part of the book.

I thought that Atticus was a great lawyer because he kept his questions very simple so that the witness could not figure out if he or she was falling into a trap until they were already in it. I really thought that it was clever when he asked Bob Ewell if he could read and write because that sounded like such an innocent question but it was one step closer for Atticus because this proved that Mr. Ewell could have done this to his daughter. This means that what happened to Mayella didn’t have to have been done by Tom.

I found it interesting that Dill was so impacted by how Mr. Gilmer was questioning Tom that he ended up crying. I could see how Dill would have gotten upset but I don’t think that he was being so offensive to Tom that he had to start crying over. I really don’t think that Dill should have cried because he didn’t even know Tom, but then again who am I to judge!
